we here have a black actor who is being recognized, not despite of his skin, but because of his talent.... I disagree with this statement. Just because Jamie Foxx is nominated for his betrayal and is getting acclaim from Hollywood is suppose to make me jump for joy as an african american? Uh naw, not happening. Things have changed for african americans true, but they haven't changed that damn much. Just because Halle, and Denzel finally won top oscars doesn't mean that "we have overcome". Denzel should have gotten that oscar when he portrayed Malcolm X, but they gave to al pacino, who should have gotten for the godfather, but they gave to someone and etc. Like i stated before I don't and probably will never take the academy seriously, and no i don't think Jamie will get the top trophy. Nuff said. your misunderstanding my statement (which is easy to do since im not the best at expressing myself in type)...im not implying that things have gotten better....but you can *not* ignore the overwhelming acclaim Foxx is recieving and that he is sweeping the awards that lead up to the oscars....im not telling anyone to start singing "we have overcome"...but i am asking everyone to look at the facts...and the facts are pointing to an easy win (just like charlize theron had an easy win last year)....can we not celebrate that? or should we be sourpusses simply because of past injustices? celebrating progress does *not* equate forgetting the past.

If Foxx is nominated & wins what does it mean? It means in that particular industry - the movie business - Jamie Foxx is recognized as a valuble commodity by his peers. How important that is depends on ones individual view of the academy & the movie industry. | |
