Tricky - AngelsWithDirtyFaces O.M.F'in.G For years I have hated this album with a passion. Whilst I loved all of his other work I just could not get into this album. And I'm usually able to crack them all. I had "Kid A" for lunch and did a few sessions of "Bitches Brew" in the afternoon, just for kicks. But AWDF was just too much for me from the get go. I hated it. I However, the last few days I have been listening non stop to NEARLY GOD and PRE-MILLENNIUM TENSION amongst others. So just now, whilst I was busy with something occupying, I accidentally dropped AWDF into the player and it sounds heavenly to my ears. I'm affraid to move, scared that I will break the spell I'm under right now. I dare not even blink my eyes. OMFG. Have I really slept on this for all those years? I tried listening to it at least once every two months but got the sickness so bad after 5 mins that I had to stop the player. This is such madness. I can't understand this. This has got to be the slowest growing on me album EVER. lol. ooooh here comes PJ Harvey as well. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

AWDF still kicks my ass everytime, so does MaxinQuaye.....Pre-Millenium Tension I never got into, except for Christiansands.....one of his newer ones, the one with all the collabs, never did it for me....
Nearly God is special, took long for me....

See, now you've made me pull out my copy, which I haven't listened to for a good 4 or 5 years! I just could not stand this album when I first heard it. I gave it a couple of tries, and then just put it up. It's been locked in my desk here at work ever since.
Let's see if my ears have changed at all since then....

Wendy & Lisa are on the b-side Time (Slippin') from that album...I think it's the Money Greedy (import) single.

I love this CD. Sometime you just gotta be in the mood for this shit but damn, when the iron strikes.....Glad to know you finally got it. Now if that could just happen with PJs Uh Huh Her. I like it but for me it has nothing on Is this Desire or Stories. Although hearing the songs from Uh Huh Her performed live gave them the life I thought some of them lacked on the CD. Now if only wish Tricky would rediscover that fire and put out a fierce ass album. I'm tired of half hearted attempts. That new chick he's working with, Costanza, can't hold a candle to Martina Topley Bird 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Sadly this is true. His last two albums were flops for me.

Sadly this is true. His last two albums were flops for me. Me too. Although there were musical glimpses of past glory in the last album, that Costanza chick needs a muzzle on that mouth of hers. I read somehwhere where Tricky said this chick was his musical soulmate and I was like, that dude must be shootin up some dirty junk because noway nohow would this chick even come close to holding a candle to Martina. It's like a birthday candle to an atom bomb. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Martina's solo album is awesome. I've had it since about a month
after it was released (that's when I finally tracked it down). I still haven't grown tired of it. It's a little bit of a grower but it reveals it's beauty quite quickly. However, it doesn't turn boring after repeated listenings. Her voice is just great. A bit different from the Tricky albums in places. She doesn't quite sound so unworldly anymore. But the warm earthly feel that's replaced that is extremely hot and infectuous. It's the kind of voice you could listen to all day long. The a-capella intro to this album alone is almost worth the price of buying the cd. It's only 01:11 mins long and I just wish it'd be longer. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Tricky made "Angels ..." as a "fuck you" to his record company, his fans, the press, his career, his image - it's a bleak, angry, despairing album, and almost his best. It's like "Chaos & Disorder" with more focus and venom, and way better tunes. Not for everyone, but neither's Tricky. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently
