4 me, this waz one of JANET'S tighest LP'S..... w/ cut's like WARMTH, ALL NITE(Don't Stop), I WANT YOU, R&B JUNKIE, SEXHIBITION...ETC. I just dont understand where it all went wrong. Probably a mix of marketing and the whole wardrobe malfunction shit.

Anyhow, this thread was not intended for the HATERS. If u dont GOT nuttin nice 2 sayin about Miss Janet....pls. dont say it.

This is all about the POSITIVITY for 2005. I wish her and ALL the JACKSONS the best for the 05.

I put it as just as good as janet. more enjoyable than All For You

The only thing that was wrong with it was to me..

1. The Album cover.... no no no Janet, that Silky "back alley Slly" wig gotsta go!

2. While the pop thang is still cool and the songs were GREAT...alot of Janet fans are growing up, and want a more mature Janet..not tryin 2 look sexy and shirtless still...its nice and all, but I want a more grown Janet...the Velvet Rope era was a perfect example of that. She didnt have to sell sex as use of recognition, and look at where it is today. Same exact info goes to Mariah. Madonna has grown...and she was worse! Why can't they look beyond fame?

I remember Janet as being quoted as saying she still cares about her young fans but is doing the music that she wants to do and that it is the best thing 4 her. It still seems like she is trying to compete with the young artists to me. She is better by the way and Damita is a very enjoyable record, but the youngins arent gonna eat it up unfortunatley sad

isthisdadawn, first I'd like to say thanks for starting this topic and Happy New Janet Year to you, too.

I'm bumping the Damita Jo album as I type and I'm so appreciative of this record. I had a lot of fun with it in 2004. Every track has become something special for me. My absolute favorites are "Like You Don't Love Me" (that groove is irresistible), "All Nite (Don't Stop)" (my song of the year), "R&B Junkie," "SloLove" and "Island Life."

There's little wrong with the album. Pop is flighty, one minute you're adored the next you're scorned. That's how the pop machine works. I see beautiful things for Janet coming this year and all I can do as a Janet fan is wait, pray and stay positive. pray heart star

Thinkin' 'Bout My Ex

::sitting in a diner, stirring coffee, eyes daydreaming::

When I first met you
I swear that I was straight with you
I wasn't looking for nobody new
I just needed someone to talk to
You said you were cool and understood
But now you caught feelings like I knew you would
And you sitting there with a broken heart
Cause I gave you my body and not my heart

::my lover caresses my hand to get my attention::

When I'm holding you late at night
I'm thinkin' bout my X
When I'm kissing you and look at you
I'm thinkin' bout my X
And I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you
And I know sorry doesn't mend your broken heart

::slowly walking in the park holding hands::

Baby I have to be
Unselfish and true to me
Cause I'm not where I really want to be
And It's nothing with you
It's all me
I toss and turn all night when I sleep
Wanting and reaching for someone who used to be
Said it must be some kinda karma thing
Cause I can't seem to let go and love again

::we stop and look at the lake, my lover kisses me, my eyes are still glazed:::

When I lay with you I close my eyes
I'm thinkin' bout my X
When I'm touching you gently
I'm thinkin' bout my X
And I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you
And I know sorry doesn't mend your broken heart
When I'm listening to music
I'm thinking' bout my X
In a bubble bath with the candles lit
I'm thinking bout my X
And I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you
And I know sorry doesn't mend your broken heart

:::my lover calls me on the phone and leaves me voicemail messages wondering where I am and what's wrong:::

You're beautiful
I don't wanna take the space from someone else
So let me go
And do a little soul searchin' for myself
I'm so sorry that
I pulled you in and let it get this far
You know I never meant to break your heart

::sitting in my bed late at night thinking about the times my lover and I once had::

At the shopping mall or movies
I'm thinkin' bout my X
At the restaurant while I'm eating
I'm thinkin' bout my X
And I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you
And I know sorry doesn't mend your broken heart
While you talk to me I drift away
I'm thinkin' bout my X
When you ask me what I'm thinkin'
I'm thinkin' bout my X
And I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt you
And I know sorry doesn't mend your broken heart...

I actually kind of hate that song. It's the lyrics - she sounds really wishy-washy and annoying.

::Janet sitting in a park wearing a goose-down jacket on a chilly winter day writing with a pencil, constantly erasing:::

:::she begins examining her stream-of-consciousness, and puts pencil to paper:::

We're vulnerable
We're sensitive
And we're complicated people, too

::she eyes two old men playing chess at a bench a few feet away from her::

So many people rolled into one
We contain so much
So much creativity

:::a woman jogs by her:::

So much energy
So many contradictions

:::she briefly looks up at the sky and sighs:::

So much confusion
So much clarity
So many moments of faith -- and fear
So many different characters live within us

:::as she thinks of the last thought to write, she slowly looks up and sees a couple slowly walking down the street holding hands contently:::

All looking for love (all looking for love, all looking for love.)

Damita Jo DuBlanc has been active in both music and comedy since the '50s. She was twice featured vocalist with Steve Gibson and the Red Caps, from 1951 to 1953 and 1959 to 1960, while also married to Gibson. She later was a regular on the Redd Foxx television series. Jo had two Top 20 R&B singles in 1960 and 1961, with "I'll Save The Last Dance For You" being a clever answer record to the Drifters' "Save the Last Dance for Me." Her 1961 single "I'll Be There" peaked at #12 on the pop charts and was a number 15 R&B hit.

I'll Save The Last Dance For You answers The Drifters Save The Last Dance For Me.

From the Nas-Illmatic website:

Nas was interviewed by Lonnie Jones in the February issue of URBAN magazine about which female R&B artists he'd like to collaborate on a song with. He answered, "There are a lot of hot females holding it down for R&B and Hip Hop right now. Out of everyone I've worked with, Lauryn Hill and I have had the most chemistry. I would really like to reach out to her and lace up another track. I want to do something with Janet [Jackson], too. She's got one of those voices that spread like peanut butter - it's smooth and slick. Aretha Franklin would be ideal, too. I want to work with some female legends."

Yeah, these tracks are cool, and Strawberry Bounce, too. But the only thing is that she doesn't know how to arrange the songs on her album - never has, never will, with Velvet Rope being the exception. Also she puts too many different producers on the payroll, like Kanye West (U-G-MFn-H! Ewww - spit it out!) At least she's learned how to end on the upbeat with For A Little While.

Good cd. Much better than All 4 you. Damita Jo IMO needed a lead off single, which was missing. Although I liked "Just a little While", it did not feel like a lead single to promote Damita Jo.

Favorites are Sexibition, All Nite, Slolove, and Moist.

I always felt that "All Nite (Don't Stop)" should've been the lead single. It would represented the album much better and after Nipplegate everybody could've talked it up, "OMG! Did you hear that hot song by Janet?!"

On the "From Janet to Damita Jo" DVD, Janet said in the Damita Jo interview that JALW was "always going to be the first single," but I don't think that is so because the single was leaked on the internet before Nipplegate and she said "it was already on the radio and out of control" before they could release it properly. Something tells me it was going to an import single (a la "Whoops Now," "What'll I Do" -- in other words, intended for non-U.S. audiences). But I DO think it was going to be a second or third single since Peter Rauhofer announced that he was doing a remix of it in late January 2004.

Actually, it suffered from all the people who were dissapointed by All For You. And of course nipplegate. But it remains one of her weaker albums, unfortunately. All Night (Don't Stop) could've carried the album in better times, but in fact it just illustrated the weakness of everything else.

I loved Damita Jo. My favorite track is Island Life. I could listen to that song (and have) over and over again.

For me there were more strong tracks than weak, and most the the great ones have already been mentioned. I would rank DJ among my favorite Janet cd's.

Since Velvet Rope, there is something I'm just not hearing anymore. I can't put my finger on it?...Her voice doesn't seem the same to me or the quality of the music. That's what is is - she has become comfortable and it comes accross in her music.
