Who Was/Is More Talented Larry G. Or Sly? This'll be my last sly thread I promise (for awhile) . Aaaanyway, what are peoples thoughts? As far as I know they both were pretty adept guitar/bass/harmonica/key/drum players, as well as good songwriter/producers and for awhile both led killer bands. Obviously sly was the originator and the initial leader, but how much of the music of the family stone was larry responsible for?, and who do you think maintained their music and talents better over the course of their careers? Sly's albums post-Fresh were almost entirely commercial disappointments, but were they really that bad artistically?

I imagine that's what most people are going to say, I was just wondering if anyone could give a more detailed comparison of their respective abilities. I for one wouldn't be qualified as I have very little graham central station material and don't know exactly what instances each is playing which instrument etc.. [Edited 1/7/05 17:57pm]

Sly was the genius behind The Family stone, yes. But how does Larry's GCS output compare to Sly's post-Fresh output, and who's the more proficient multi-instrumentalist? I think these are more ambiguous questions.

This is a tough one. They are both talented in their own right, but seeing as how I am a bass playing aficionado, I have to give it up to my man Larry.

Agreed. After having exprerincing the power of GCS in the 70's I would have to say its Larry b/c of the innovative bass playing . [Edited 1/7/05 20:14pm]

I think these are more ambiguous questions. Larry's output with GCS was cool but nothing that will get him into the Hall of Fame like Sly and the Family Stone. I stick with Sly because if there's any doubt of Sly's talent, go put a Family Stone album. Plus Larry get's points off for One in a Million
