This Is The Ultimate Autographical Album IMHO! I don't think I ever heard something so personal like this album. Everything about it revolved around Marvin-Anna's bitter and ugly divorce. Like the song's intro of "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You": You know, when you say your marriage vows, they're supposed to be for real. I mean... if you think back about what you really said, what it's all about, honor, loving and obeying till death do us part and all. But it shouldn't be that way, it should... it should be lies because it turns out to be lies. If you don't honor what you said, you lie to God. The words should be changed. I'm counting the days till Motown deluxes this album as they did to his 3 previous 70's albums. Recognize

this album was based around the divorce settlement between Anna and Marvin, she was to recieve all the revenue from this album, this is one of theeee most angry albums. Marvin has done. [Edited 1/7/05 8:40am]

I don't have this album, but several tracks from it are on the box set I do own, 'The Master'. I love "When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You" Man, that's an incredible expression. Just awesome in it's honesty and sincerity. I think it's cool that he originally wanted to just throw an album together so that Anna would get as little proceeds as possible. He changed his mind after becoming more intrigued by the idea of just pouring out his feelings. That's an artist in the purest form. I will always love Marvin for being true to himself.

Yes, I worship this album. Well, all Marvin Gaye records, basically. But this one is definitely his most personal and beautifully wrought lyrics-wise.

Same here! It's the only one I own too. I bought it specifically for 'A Funky Space Reincarnation'. It's okay but I don't know why people go on about it. 'When Did You Stop Loving Me' sort of sounds like the theme tune to some cheesey Australian 70s soap like 'Sons & Daughters' or something. I have a handful of other Marvin stuff on compilation albums.
