There is multiple genius at work; Stephen Trask, who wrote all the music (and I think lyrics too, in co-op with John Cameron Mitchell.

Funny, I was thinking of starting a Hedwid thread yesterday. I too am a Hedhead.

I saw the stage show twice at the Jane Street Theater in NYC where the show opened (once with the original cast and once with Michael Cerveris, who also played guitar in Bob Mould's band). I aslo saw the stage show in SF with Kevin Cahoon in the title role. All great shows.

I like the film, but I prefer the stage show. For me, the huge bummer about the film is that it does not include the song "The Long Grift," which I LOVE and could easily be a hit on its own.

Hedwig RULES!!

Funny, cuz I just listened to the soundtrack last night for the first time in ages. I love this show. The music is excellent, especially if you like the music from the glam era.

If you're going to get it, I suggest getting the soundtrack to the stage show and not the movie. In my opinion, the production on the movie version isn't up to par with the stage show. The show itself is so much more powerful than the movie (though I do love the movie).

We were fortunate here in Minneapolis to have a great production of it. If I'm not mistaken, it was the longest running version outside of NYC. I've seen both the Mpls and NYC, and I have to say I have a slight preference for the show here. The show moves me so much, and I cried during the Wicked Little Town reprise each of the four times I saw the show. Goooood stuff!

i saw the show once in NYC (with a not very good Hedwig who would have been much better off in a cheesy Disney musical, but it was still a good time) and once in its short-lived Chicago run (which was very very good), and of course i LOVE the movie...the soundtrack always makes me happy.

mainly because she never showed up for rehearsals and would forget the lyrics to songs in performances, deciding instead to make up her own bizarre stream-of-consciousness words to the songs...i kinda wish i coulda seen her before she got canned. giggle

deservedly so i take it...my god, what was she thinking?

fyi y'all: im not an ally sheedy fan....i use that as my avi cause of her expression..that any many people say wendy looks like ally...and wendy's current lo'va directed ally in high art..so it just made sense when i saw that face to have it as an avi...not that anyone asked..

Hedwig has been produced in Europe. Last year, there were several shows in the UK and Milan (the Atrocity Tour). I think there is a production currently running in Spain, although I am not sure which city.

I've only seen the movie--one of the best rock 'n' roll films ever. I absolutely love the soundtrack.

Good movie, good music. Very Rocky Horror/Ziggy Stardust, which ain't too bad.

A friend of mine just directed his first movie called "Jailbait" which stars the guy who played the rock star who supposedly stole Hedwig's act.

Yeah, and he's still very young, like early 20's.

Jailbait made it into the Tribecca film festival, where it got good reviews. He is looking for distribution now. It's very indie; I think the whole film takes place in one jail cell! No car chases.

Last year, I produced and starred in Hedwig here in Houston. Unfortunately, the website for our show is down, and I can't seem to get ahold of the girl who hosted it, otherwise I'd show y'all some pics of me as the fabulous trannie-whore. (There was a thread about it early last year, but it looks like the pics aren't showing up there anymore either. I'll see what I can do to get some back on the web soon).

There has been some talk of us doing a revival of the show in the latter half of 2005, so keep your ear to the ground if you live in Texas!
