Unpretty made me want to cry the first time I heard it. It was so refreshing..especially the part where she says:
Never insecure until I met you Now im in-stupid I used 2 be so cute to me Just a little bit skinny Why do I look to all these things To keep you happy Maybe get rid of you and then I'll get back to me   Now that is a lyric that made me think. I rewound that song on the bus to school like 4 times. I felt so good that someone addressed that issue. The real T-Boz written poem is just as good. A good book too by the way.
Oh and yes, much realer than Christinas song. Her song was basically an answer to that. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

I was loved by all the people. But they did make fun of me when I played sports. I was (and still am) so little and thin. I am 5'6" and 106 lbs. i am very sentimental bout tlc these days, especially after the passing away of left eye.as for unpretty, i think it is a danm good song with an appropriate video.unpretty just speaks volumes on how the people we love can just make us feel physically and emotionally inadequate. | |

TLC was a favorite of mine, and I love the Fan Mail album, but this was the one single I didn't like. Given that they had lots of fake hair and lots of make up all the time, it just (to me, anyway) came off as a bit phony. yes, Christina wears lots of makeup, but I do love Beautiful. I think it's very moving. I don't think the two songs have the same message. One is saying I don't need all that mess to be beautiful (while the singers have all that mess on), and the other is saying it doesn't matter what people say about me...I am beautiful (even if I got all that mess on).  | |

Exactly. I love me some TLC and I like this song, but I think this was a misguided attempt at their message. U can't sing a song about the negative impact your industry standards of beauty have on young girls and then shoot the video dressed in Dolce and Gabbana, coiffed 2 the 9's after about a solid 90 minutes of hair and make up!
