where to start with Teena Marie

I got Rick James' Street Songs Deluxe album where Teena Marie appears on Fire and Desire and performs I'm a Sucka For Love & Square Biz on the live disc.

They're probably my 3 favourite songs on the album..what a voice!

So what albums/compilations of hers should I get?

Is the Motown 14 Greatest Hits any good? This was the only Teena album I could find in the whole of Dublin but the guy in the record store said the cd was missing and to come back tomorrow.

well personally, Im not a fan of Greastest Hits but if u can i would start out with her 1986 album EMERALD CITY, then get ROBBERY(1983), then IRONS IN THE FIRE(1980), then IT MUST BE MAGIC(1981)

The albums I have are her Motown releases:

Wild and Peaceful
Lady T
Irons In The Fire

It Must Be Magic (Get the remastered edition, it contains bonus tracks and a live track)

And her Epic release:

Starchild

The best compilations I have seen out there are:

I Need Your Lovin' - The Very Best of Teena Marie (Motown Records)

1. I Need Your Lovin' (7:31)
2. Behind The Groove (6:03)
3. Every Little Bit Hurts (Previously Unreleased) (5:01)
4. Irons In The Fire (3:33)
5. Portuguese Love (7:50)
6. It Must Be Magic (6:08)
7. Deja Vu (I've Been Here Before) (7:38)
8. Don't Turn Your Back On Me (Previously Unreleased) (4:42)
9. Square Biz (6:25)
10. Turnin' Me On (6:09)
11. Now That I Have You (5:29)
12: I'm A Sucker For Your Love (5:55)

Lover Girl: The Teena Marie Story (Epic Records)

1. Just Us Two (6:05)
2. Ooo La La La (12 Inch Version) (6:13)
3. The Sugar Shack (Extended Club Mix) (6:58)
4. If I Were A Bell (6:38)
5. Stop The World (4:17)
6. My Dear Mr. Gaye (5:25)
7. Shadow Boxing (6:49)
8. Light (1:12)
9. Out On A Limb (6:35)
10. Lovergirl (4:51)
11. Dear Lover (5:17)
12. Fix It (12 Inch Version) (6:34)
13. Casanova Brown (5:58)

Get these two compilations and you have a good Teena Marie collection that pretty much spans her entire career.
Andy is a four letter word.
