He had some drug issues lately. And he is getting older.
I saw him (& the P-funk All Stars) twice, in about 96 and then in about 2001. I must say that the 1996 concert was one of the best shows I've ever seen. The 2001 show was fairly slow in the middle, but the beginning and end were great. The 2001 show was at the Warfield in San Francisco. Everyone was smoking pot. Passing pipes, passing joints. So naturally someone lights up a cigarette. Immediately security comes to them and says "There's no smoking in the Warfield!" I saw this happen more than once! Check this song out at:

Yesum. I was fortunate enough to do some studio work with him in San Francisco then attending his show at Townsend in '02. You gotta pay tribute to the funk! I thought it was funny you can only take pictures during the first 3 songs of his set because after that the drugs start kicking in. It was one helluva show though.

P-Funk was playing in Brooklyn tonight but I couldn't go.
But I'm sure he and his mob will play again. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

You know, George's Legacy could've been so much more than what it is now. Not saying he doesn't have a lot, I'm just guessing if he were a little more disciplined things for him would be on a far greater level. It's too damn bad that whenever someone refers to him they have to bring up his drug use, though without them we wouldn't have all of the abstract funk he's created under the influence. I caught a P-funk show on halloween and it just seemed as he was going through the motions, though as most bands, they, the allstars, feeds off the crowds energy and I can't say things didn't get hyped until they did "MaggotBrain" and "Fly on" which are guitar heavy songs. The crowd went nuts!!! Michael Hampton and Blackbyrd Mcknight ripped that shit all the way up! I was doing this until the end of the show. I felt like crying after the show ended, cuz I know George won't be doing this too much longer and although the only thing he does is pretty much stand there and whispers a line here and there, it's just his presence that makes it that much funkier. If only I was old enough to see him in his prime. Thank god they had the sense to record some of their concerts, just so those who weren't there could get a glimpse of how incredible there MF's were back in the day. Anyways I'm babbling, all I'm really trying to say is that as long as GC is doing it in a city near me, I'll be there. True Funk Soldier for life!!
