For me, the Usher "backlash" began a long time ago. I mean hardly any of my friends like him. Most can't stand him. Sales figures, opinion polls, surveys etc.. don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the majority of people. Not to say that Usher isn't popular, but there is a substantial portion of the public who aren't duped by what the media spoonfeeds them everyday and realize that this emperor isn't wearing any clothes. Now granted, I generally hang out with fairly informed, conscious, like-minded people and I know that they/we are a distinct minority, but when you don't watch MTV or hang out with the kind of people who do, the popular hacks aren't hard to see for what they are. The other day a friend of mine and I were watching one of these stupid awards shows and called it "The Usher fella-show" biggrin

Usher so reminds me of Bobby brown it is uncanny.

I agree. I mean, really, he didn't even sell 10 million and people are putting him in the Prince/MJ echelon. His career resembles Bobby's in the late 80's more than Prince's or MJ's. I don't hate him, but durn.

Plus, as I hear it he is from Chattanooga, TN, not Atlanta.

I never recall Bobby Brown winning as many awards as Usher, plus Bobby Brown has always had personal and career problems since his New Edition Days. And Usher makes it quit clear that he is from Chattanooga TN, his career started in Atlanta, he lives there and he just represents it. smile

Well, hell, there are so many awards show these days that it's not surprising that Usher has a bunch of awards. He'll prolly get one or 2 more on Grammy night. But really. Usher's melding R&B with the current hip-hop trends of the day. That's really what Bobby did. Talent-wise, I don't see them as much different.

Had Bobby stayed out of trouble he would've had a similar career.

I've never heard Usher speak on Chattanooga, tho. I'll take your word for it.

I can even see a few Bobby moves in some of Ushers video's. The style is mostly Bobby. Good 4 Usher I say. Bobby was fucking great at the time.

Usher made it big in uk. Bobby did too, but not to same extent.

If r'n'b was as big 16 years ago as it is now then Bobby woulda outsold Usher easy.....Bobby is one of the main reasons why rnb survived.

Do you mean that you've never heard it ever?

If you've never heard it before then you don't know for sure that it sucks, right? This could be your future favorite song in the whole world!

Or maybe not. smile

I knew someone would point that out. lol No, I already know that I don't like his style of music. It's just not my thing. I have no idea what it sounds like, but I might recognize it if I heard it. Or not. I don't listen to the radio if I can help it. lol

Ok, now I know what song you are talking about. I was flipping through channels tonight and came upon that "The Art of Musicology" Prince special. SO I watched that again, and then right afterward there was an interview with Usher on another show. neutral They were playing that song in the background, so I figured that was the one because I have heard it a lot, whether I intended to or not. Anyway, I ALWAYS think of strip clubs when I hear it because they always play it there.

(in case you're wondering, I tend to end up at strip clubs with friends when everything else has closed for the evening) lol

I'll say this year or next year...whenever he releases his next album. It'll just be like when Michael Jackson released Bad,which is as good as Thriller. He'll probably just make another lackluster like '8701'.

That's very telling, isn't it? Acts that have so much sucess all at once tend to get a backlash. Yes, Usher was by no means new, but the fact that his singles felt like the only thing on radio (and not to mention, sounded just like everything else) is what is going to cause a backlash, but maybe not hammer sized. Not to mention the ego!

What's the deal with the sex video with Usher and two women? I'm thinking it was purposely leaked to try and squash those gay rumors.

No one's seen it as far as I know. Sounds like they just planted the rumor, but didn't actually leak a tape. lol

you know i never heard about this gay rumour till started on the org. i saw a thread but at the time i had dial-up and it was to long to load so i never got the details....
i can see him being gay tho.
