All of these acts take me back to the days (pre-L.A. Riots) when people used to get their cassingles and vinyl from the SWAP MEET! You didn't go to the mall, YOU WENT TO THE SWAP MEET TO GET THAT LOCAL FLAVOR!!!!

I'm from the South, but most of my mom's people are in LA, so I remember going to one or two of those back in the 80's . . .

Can anybody recommend some great old skool rap compilations?

If you're interested in digging deeper into the West Coast/L.A. rap scene (BEFORE N.W.A.!), check out the West Coast Rap series...

The first three volumes of this series are the best and include a lot of stuff that KDAY 1580 AM used to play back in the day. Lots of Swap Meet/underground jewels on here.

Also, if you can find it (don't know if it's distributed nationally) there's a great KDAY compilation called "KDAY - Original Mixmasters 'Often Imitated' - Vol. 1" has great mixes by the original KDAY DJs such as Tony G, Julio G and even Dr. Dre does a rare mix set spinning his old Wreckin' Cru stuff (like "Surgery") and Cybotron, Bobby Jimmy, etc.

Lin Que was actually a dancer she appeared in The Last Dreagon as an extra...
she entered into the rap game as Isis down with the X-Clan's Blackwatch movement, after she left that camp she formed a Management company with MC Lyte released 3 singles "This is it","Rip it up",and "Let it fall". in the late 90's she joined the all female Wu-Tang group Deadly Venoms...only to leave before actually recording with them.

"Isis"!!! There you go! Now I remember! I don't remember her from "The Last Dragon." Guess I wasn't looking hard enough. Speaking of rap and The Last Dragon, Master Gee's (Sugar Hill Gang) brother was in it. He played Bruce Leroy's little brother. Oh, but you probably already knew that! biggrin

correct me if i'm wrong but isn't her name Que Lin? is she from new york? i think my sister knew this girl. she was a dancer for a lot of hip hop videos.

Street Jams: Hip Hop from the Top - 4 volumes and all good.

And the Old Skool "Rapmasters Volumes 1-15". There are two different sets of Rapmasters you want the old set. The new set has the late 80's and early 90's rap on it.
