is an mp3 list a music collection? hey
I was having an argument with my brother just the other day: He's really into computers en stuff and has thousands of mp3's on his pc. He's always asking me why I spend money on cd's (like i do) while i can find the same songs on the net for free. There are dozens of reasons, but one that stands out for me: Mp3's are not a music collection...they're a bunch of dots on a hard disc, some electrical signals in a box...I've spend a lot of time getting my cd-collection together and some punk that clicked on a few buttons some time can't barge in and claim it's the same thing... To me MP3's are like fotocopying pablo Picasso's guernica, hang it on your wall and claim you have an artwork in your house...(well in today's art-world...) Anyway's: what do y'all think, is an mp3-list a music collection on the same level as you cd/lp-collection? It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

Regardless of whether or not they're part of a collection, you should smack your brother with a rotten corpse for that comment.

I'm sure you know this, but a cd is a bunch of dots from a hard disc burned into some silicon. "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

i know,
what i meant was: When people post pics of their cd collection on this forum I'm usually pretty impressed by it...you can show me an mp3-list, even if it's long enough to circle the earth, it won't impress me one bit. You could have prince's deleted wally song on mp3 for all I care...I'd be more impressed with the actual studio-tape,or even a boot-cd, even if its the same song [Edited 1/5/05 6:25am] It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis!

yes, but its not a record collection. I woke up sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
and the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more for dessert

To me, a music collection should have some resale value. Who's gonna buy your brother's folder of mp3s?

I have a huge collection of MP3s. I still buy CD's but the industry only has itself to blame. All this "its the downloaders fault" shit. Invest some money in decent artists and people will always buy CDs. Look at the latest U2 album and its sales this goes to show that people were crying out for some real music. I wish your brother happy downloading, though you cant help but miss the artwork.

Yeah, I do miss the artwork. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven
