Hey, Lovers of the 80s!!!

I just re-discovered my "Once Upon A Time" CD from Simple Minds and I realized how much I love their sound.
So I bought a Best Of 2CD compilation yesterday - GREAT!!!

"Don't You (Forget About Me)"
"Promised You A Miracle"
"Alive And Kicking"
"All The Things She Said"
"Belfast Child"
...among others...

I'd like to ask you "how do you feel about Simple Minds?"

I notice that they have just released a box set with a load of live tracks - My recommendation is to get hold of this, as many of their live versions were considerably different to the studio originals (in many cases almost unrecognisable from them) and often much better too.

I didn't know much about Simple Minds until last year. Of course, I knew their biggest song, "(Don't You) Forget About Me," but it wasn't until I heard an '80s mix that included "New Gold Dream" that I decided to investigate the band further. I bought the "New Gold Dream" album. It quickly became one of my favorite albums. Besides the title track, "Someone, Somewhere in Summertime" and "Promised You a Miracle" are fantastic. It's hard to listen to that album sometimes since I listened to it a lot during a very tough period in my life. Still, it's even harder to deny the musicianship and absolute beauty that was displayed on that album, so I continue to listen to it frequently.

I have a few live songs, and they really did change up their stuff in concert. I liked the "Sparkle in the Rain" version of "Book of Brilliant Things," but I have a live MP3 where they made it a lot more rocking. I love that version more than the one on the album. Also, the version of "New Gold Dream" that's on the "Live in the City of Light" album is outstanding.

The only similarity between U2 and Simple Minds lies in the voices of Jim Kerr and Bono, but I think the "New Gold Dream" album trumps anything U2's ever done.

Lead singer has a huge cock apparantly, as does Huey Lewis. Bet ya didn't know that!

Yes, I'm serious! The track was written for a film (I think "Breakfast Club" or whatever...) and after Billy turned it down Simple Minds got the chance...

His version is almost like Simple Minds' version. Nothing special... (I only heard it once...)

I love "All the Things She Said" and "Alive and Kicking." Sometimes I get tired of hearing "Don't You (Forget About Me.)" It's one of those quintessential 80's songs from an 80's movie.

Wasn't the lead singer married to Chrissie Hynde?
