Anyone remember when MC hamer challenged Jacko to a dance contest? It is a true story but nothing happened though. This was back in 1991

what a show that would be.

Hammer would of won though.....

It is true. Michael didn't do it, which is why hammer put him at the end of the "2 legit too quit" video. It would have been stupid for Michael to do it, he was on another level (The greatest dancer of his generation); Hammer would eventually fall off. I guess he wasn't legit enough. The Funky Headhunter was the shit though.

70's - Osmond’s
80's - Prince
90's - Hammer
00's – Eminem

Can’t get enough of Michael.

I wouldn't put people like James Brown and Jackie Wilson in a dancers list. As straight up performers, they are 2 of the greatest. But as dancers, well they really only had a few moves each. They get extra points for originality though. I mean, I never sam James Brown tap dance or any shit like that lol . And he couldn't have been that great a dancer above all others when 10 year old Michael Jackson could mimic his every move to perfection wink

I think you're doing James and Jackie a disservice (though I need to watch more Jackie Wilson before I develop a full opinion) in that characterization. Were it only for James' mash, splits, pushup routine he would be considered a great dancer and he does have plenty of other moves on top of that. Michael may have more moves and more elaborate ones, but Jackie and James were unbelievably deft and energetic in a way that practically nobody else has been. Michael surpasses them in the complexity of motion and choreography and whatnot, I'll give you that.

To add, those two could do their moves & be back on time to sing without missing a beat or be out of breath...

i soo am not dissing them...i think they are great at what they do but the only "dance" performance i will give madonna credit for is her Vogue VMA performance..but thats was more about showmanship then actual dancing...that was about the costumes and twelve dancers on stage with her..it worked as a performance piece but not dance..and her concerts, well..blond ambition and girly show were excellent i look at them for their theatrics and not the dance...all though there were moments of brilliance....

at anyrate...and im sorry, mj? great..moonwalk...nice...the twirl, nice again..but i just personally prefered janet over him....no hate from my part.

but your right, anyone disagree with me and [snip]. wink

To put Janet's dancing over her brother's dancing?
Either you need glasses or a good cup of coffee to wake you up

Agreed....
Once upon a time, Ms. Jackson, (if you're nasty) only had one dance move before "Control"...
Then, Paula Abdul to the rescue!!!!!

Are you kidding, he is an awesome freestyler, without having to be choreographed to death.

If you have ever seen this show called Listed on MuchMoreMusic, they put prince in 4th place as best 20 dancers, along with MJ in first Janet in Second and Madonna is third

Have you seen the T.A.M.I. show where he and his Famous Flames updtaged the headliners Rolling Stones in 1964. The greatest performance ever caught on tape. I think that is the earliest footages of JB on tape. I would like to see his Apollo performance from his 62 Live LP (Released in 63)

worship , the T.A.M.I. performance will make you forget all about Michael Jackson. Well not exactly, but it'll give you a new level of appreciation for James and his impact on everyone from Jagger to Jackson to MC Hammer to Usher

EXACTLY!!!!!
And it will make you forget about Michael Jackson.....

Sananda Maitreya is also a great dancer and he´ll beat Madonna, Michael Jackson and Prince any day with his moves.

i love sananda but thats going a tad bit 2 far!

prince and MJ are way better dancers. I dont even consider sananda a dancer.

Michael CAN dance...in my opinion anyway wink

I never understood why people would put Janet on these lists. Her dancing is smooth and skilled in the "average" way, she's like any other professional dancer out there. If you put her between two dancers there's nothing that would make her stand out. Which is my opinion of course....

I agree biggrin

A) It's a quasi-Prince site so it's bound to happen
B) If Rita Moreno, Terence Trent D'arby and John Travolta can get a vote anyone can
C) It's a free world. smile

I would say James Brown, MC Hammer, Michael Jackson (before he fell in love with choreography), and Bobby Brown as far as entertainers that can/could dance-- in that order. I can't even pick the women-- nobody really stands out for me. I won't even compare them to the Nicholas brothers, Gene Kelly, Gregory Hines, and the like. I don't care for those styles so I wouldn't be a good judge.

have you seen Rita dance during America (westsidestory)? Oh my god!! There is a part where she kicks her legs back, slips down and swings back up...Paula and JLo could learn a thing or two from that tour de force performance...its classic Robbins...she is doing two and three moves with different parts of her body at one time..its an awesome and beautiful performance that i personally think surpasses jackson's Motown dance..

sure sure mj has a lot more going for him then moreno..but if we are talking about the dance and not the "entertainment/theatrics" then i give it up to Moreno..

and i know you werent expecting a serious responce or anything (and that your pointing out that moreno isnt a pop singer) but your post made me remember what a wonderful perfomance she gives in that number.....and i just got all excited about it all over again.. lol i think im gonna go watch the dance scene right now..

Here's another person that prefers watching Janet Jackson dance to her brother. Michael Jackson's dancing just makes me feel uncomfortable; it doesn't move me in any other way. I've watched Bad/Dangerous/HIStory tours and I can't help but cringe when he breaks into most of those dance moves. shrug I will acknowledge that Janet isn't as technically proficient, but I'd rather see her dance anyday.

i dont understand why vidoe's cant be as good as this.....we get like one great dance video every five years now....we had Bjork's "its oh so quiet" and then fatboy slim's video with Christopher Walkin....yet you dont really need technically skilled dancers to make a great dance....bjork's "quiet" and pat benatar's "love is a battlefield" are proof of that...

He used to dance in his video's. Beside that I've seen him live a lot of times and he always dances when he's not playing guitar or piano. On every concert he shows at least some dancemoves.
Sananda doesn't dance through out his concert, neither does Prince. They both dance when not playing an instrument.
Sananda has some great moves, I surely can't bend my body the way he does. wink

Edit: I must add that I can't remember if he was dancing at the Freedom festival on May 5 2003 (Haarlem), the same goes for his performance at Parkpop festival on June 25 1995 (Den Haag) But I remember him dancing in Paradiso for his SOD-tour and as well in Paradiso and NightTown for his WildCard-tour.

yeah, the choreography in that scene was hot! I love the song too.

closest video to capture a scene like this I say would be Jacko's "smooth criminal".....that has an awesome movie musical vibe to it too.
