Has music become a "pop" contest? Prince is truly in a class with the greats like Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Aretha Franklin, Patty Labelle. These artist are extremely talanted musically. They are not models portraying music artist. They are not thugs glorifying their crimes. They would never resort to "lip-syncing" regardless how complex the dance moves are. Don't get me wrong, I believe in the first ammendment, along with the rights of all orgers to express themselves. I just don't believe that many orgers truly appreciate just how talented Prince is. How could you listen to Prince and appreciate it and then listen to Britney Spears? It's mind boggling.[/quote Few may know I have the worst taste in music (i.e 80's/early 90's cheese) but I do like some of acts u mentioned. I just like cheese alot more now. I think it's like a rebirth of some pretentious form. It is odd as I worshipped Nirvana a few years back. Same with Bob Dylan. I think I grew out of so called "real" acts and realized that cheese is more fun. Cheese always cheers me up and i love to dance. U can't dance to Jimi hendrix. Long live cheese

Maybe I've not been paying enough attention, but I haven't noticed who here is hyping her. that being said.... As a Britney 'hater,' I'm the first to admit "Toxic" is a DAMN fine pop song. Catchy as all hell. Britney may not really be responsible for that, but her writers and producers created a fine piece of work with THAT song, IMO. Best be watching what you say...the Brit Hate police are watching As I said, I started a thread aboout Non-Britney Music flooding the forum and I got served by a Lover who'll remain annony (but has an e and an a in thier name) who basically said if I don't like Brit threads to stop clicking on them. And I admitted my true weakness, which is if someone starts a Lover thread, I am COMPELLED to say something. I don't want to...I have to. I have OBHD (Obsessive Britany Hate Disorder) That causes regurgitation every time I hear her name or think about her. (You should see my desk now..UGH) Christian Zombie Vampires

Multiple dancers on stage is only to sidetrack the audiance's attention from the un-talented artist, a ploy by the pop star manufacturer(major record label). And to also fill up an empty stage where a band used to be. In the old days, when people lypsinced on television shows, a lot of them put the band on the stage to at least give the illusion that something live was going on. Nowadays, even with some concerts, people already know they are going to see a second rate show with pre-recorded music so I guess they try to turn the concert into a damned "Broadway" production with a stage full of dancers. I think the "fill up the stage" makes sense, especially when there isn't a band. Remember when Madonna had 2 dancers and a band?

I think the "fill up the stage" makes sense, especially when there isn't a band. Remember when Madonna had 2 dancers and a band? I'm not talking about people like Madonna. I'm talking about a lot of these new hip hop artists where there is only the artist on stage with about 5 or 6 dancers and no band. Without the dancers, the stage would be pretty empty. I don't know why they have the dancers anyway, the music's too slow to dance to. I'm quoting my own self because I misread your post when I was replied the first time. I thought you had said it didn't make sense so I was explaining why. [Edited 1/4/05 3:28am] Andy is a four letter word.

Visually it makes sense to have more people on stage. And if you're a dance act, well hey, shouldn't there be dancers? No brainer there

Disco acts with the budgets had dancers. I was much too young to go to concerts back then but from what I remember from seeing them on television, if they were lypsincing, they usually were on stage alone or had a band in the background giving the illusion of playing. From the televised concerts I have seen, they have basically all had a band and if they did have a dancer, it was usually one or two and not 6 or 7. Actually, I don't remember seeing even one dancer but of course, I haven't seen every performance out there. Overall, it is totally different these days. A lot of performers don't even try to portray the illusion of a live performance because listeners these days are happy with a second class show. Andy is a four letter word.

My only beef is when major label hiphop acts replace their DJs with a dat tape. Not that I expect all DJs to juggle 2 copies of "Daisy Lady", I just want some interaction with the DJ again. But instead there are 8 to 10 hype men pacing the stage and drowning out the main rapper, and no DJ.
