Rick James: No mention

I'm watching all of the end of year stuff...all the bullshit that happened in 2004 including some of deaths.

I never saw a mention of Rick James on any list of "people we lost in 2004".....What's up with that?

Did anyone else notice that?

I noticed this as well. After a while, I started looking specifically to see if he would be mentioned, and I never once saw it. This was all on TV stuff though, not anything in magazines.

I'm not really surprised. They are all so busy thinking of him as "bad ole Rick James" that they are overlooking his musical contributions. It's funny though, because the same ones put someone like Tupac on a pedastol. I think it will be a few years before people start recognizing Rick James.

I'm was thinking that they start to compile what will be in the bulk of these Year In Review shows are around Thankgiving?

hmmm But if Ray Charles died June 11th (i'm guessing he was included?) and Rick James died August 6th. Nah, that doesn't work.

You're right, the brother got...

Ray overshadowed him. Plus, there was no convenient way to slip into a news item. With Ray, they could segue into Jamie Foxx, the upcoming Golden Globes, etc. It's a machine, sadly. To be real with you, most non-R&B/funk/black music lovers don't know who he is. He's commonly referred to as "the guy who did Super Freak" or the inspiration behind Dave Chapelle's "I'm Rick James, b***h" slogan. shrug

I wouldn't put it past them.
But knowing Neil Young, he'd never let it happen without a fight.
