Swept Away or Graffiti Bridge - Which is worse?

.

Madonna has made a career out of shocking people. The most shocking thing for me is how she have been allowed to star in so many bad films. At times, I feel she's racing neck-n-neck with Kevin Costner to make movie critics cringe.

But Graffiti Bridge is possibly one of the film industry's most atrocious works. True, it's no Death Race 2000 or any number of Amazon women films, but those movies are deliberate, and at times end up being very funny. Graffiti bridge is only consequentially funny because it's so bad.

So, which is worse?

.

I've never seen Swept Away, but I don't think many critics did either. From what I remember, most people were out for blood long before the movie was even released.

Graffiti Bridge did have 'We Can Funk', 'The Question of U', 'Thieves in the Temple', 'Elephants and Flowers', 'New Power Generation', 'Still Would Stand All Time' and 'Joy and Repetition' going for it, so I can't totally fault the movie.

Holy shit? Which one is worse?
I never saw Desperately seeking, nor have I seen Dick Tracey.

Actually, I can't recall sitting through any of her films.

The Next Best Thing is worse, from the conceptual level up. Swept Away is, from what I understand, a remake of a really fantastic foreign film. and unfortunately, it isn't even bad enough to be funny. neither is The Next Best Thing, but then again, it's the kind of movie that irritates you from beginning to end. for starters, how in the fuck do a yoga instructor and a gardener afford to cater a children's birthday party that looks like it cost upwards of $10,000???? and that's before you even get to the apparent notion that all it takes for a gay man and a woman to screw is a little booze and some dancing in formal wear. barf

DSS and DT are actually both pretty good in their own ways, even if DT is a bit watered down.

graffit bridge is much, much worse than swept away. graffiti bridge is awful! if it weren't for the music it would have been a complete waste of time. swept away was funny and campy. i actually liked it much more than i thought i would. i waited until video for it because everyone said it was so bad. when i watched it i was surprised that i liked it.

Swept Away.

At least Graffiti Bridge's saving grace was its soundtrack.

Yes, those are two films for which Madonna actually received good reviews. That's pretty rare.

I totally agree.'Swept Away' is bad,but it's not nearly as bad as I expected (based on the brutal reviews). As far as Madonna movies go,it's not even her worst film.Compared to some of her other movies like 'Desperately Seeking Susan'(yeah,I know it was a hit,but I hate it regardless, lol) and 'Shangai Surprise',it's pretty decent....campy and silly with some truly funny scenes.

The thing with 'Graffiti Bridge' is...Prince is the star, the director and the writer. And we all know that he's not really skilled at doing all those things.Storytelling is not one of his strengths. At least Madonna has the sense to not try to do everything herself...lol...

Swept Away was an atrocity. At least Graffiti Bridge had good music.

'GB' is a musical so a better comparison would be 'Graffiti Bridge' vs 'Evita' since that's also a musical as well lol

Both movies are horrible. In fact, Madonna should never be allowed to act again. The only movie that was the least bit watchable was Evita. All her other flicks have sucked bad. She's a horrible actress. Even her fake english accent isn't right. I also wonder what's become of her husband. He hasn't made a movie since marrying her, has he??

I found it to be more satisfying than graffi bridge on several levels.

In GB you care very little for the protaganist, and the story never gets over the whole "After school special for drugged up hippies" feel.

But in swept away, you at least want to see the guy home train that crazy bitch.

And despite the movie being truly aweful, you can see where Guy Richie knows how to splice a film and give it a certain look. GB looked F@cked up from beginning to end.

They should do a sequel where Madonna is swept away to seven corners. She meets up with Prince and slaps his ass around and takes over his club. Then, she goes over to pandemonium and whoops Morris' ass and pees standing up on his shoes. Then,as the shot shows p and morris trying to figure out what the fuck just happened,Madonna teases them by singing another remake of "tick tick bang bang".But in the end,it all turns out for the good and everyone winds up being friends. The finale (directed by Guy Ritchie) shows everyone singing "still would stand all time" and prince mis-sings "still will stand all time".Madonna stops the music and shoots p a look that would stop blood from flowing. She says "fool,it's "would" not "will"!!!" And then drags p by his hair screaming and wining into a pen ,kicks him in the ass, and slams the door shut.He quickly realizes there are 2 very hungry razorbacks in there with him.All of a sudden it becomes very apparent that Prince was a woman all this time as Madonna and band sing a rousing electronic/rock version of "if i was your girlfriend".The final shot is madonna saying,"I guess there really is joy in repetition coz he sang that song an awful lot.The little bitch really was someone's girlfriend."

I should erase what I wrote because ..well.because...I'm very tired.Sorry.I'm too tired to delete.

Frankly, GB only works as a long-form music video for Prince music. As a stand alone movie it fails utterly.

Swept Away, while a tad tedious, is at least watch-able as a movie. Madonna being a star in it is beside the point. I've seen a lot of movies far worse than this one (including GB).

Another fun thing about 'Swept Away'...it's a delight watching Madonna play the "rich bitch" in the first part, only to get her ass kicked in the second half lol

And like you pointed out,Guy Ritchie is at least a decent director. He knows what he's doing (most of the time).
