Hall and Oates new R&B covers CD I really like this cd, its got some great versions of some of the clasics.. Some songs fall intot the H&O cheesy territoyr, but check it out for acoustic versions of "Love TKO", "Still in Love With You" "Ooh Child" and many others redone in the H&O way.. ______________________________________________

I liked their cover of "love train" back in 1988 (I think?) Definately 80's sounding anyway

I'm enjoying this CD alot, but I have a few observations...
***Why why why did they have to change most of the lyrics to "I Can Dream About You"? On most tracks, they make very subtle changes, which is fine, but on this tune, they completely re-wrote it.It feels like an entirely different song and is hardly the "tribute" to Dan Hartman that he deserves. ***The liner notes are VERY interesting.Daryl Hall comments on each song, and explains why they decided to cover it.He's very confident about this project, even going so far as to suggest that their cover of "Used To Be My Girl" is funkier(!) than the original...lol... ***Their version of Aretha's "Rock Steady" is incredible!! It's funky as hell!

Hall and Oates are a great, great band.
Damn. Darryl Hall can sing the phone book and it would sound great... Remember the Paul Young song--"Every Time You Go Away"? The Hall and Oates original is just...awesome... Some people tell me I've got great legs...

I juts love all that old soul music and it's nice to hear new versions by someone like Darryl Hall. He's got soul. ______________________________________________

I agree. This CD puts me in a good mood as well.Daryl is a wonderful singer, and they chose many of my favorite songs to cover.I hope they eventually do a "sequel" to this, with more classic R&B songs.

What songs were you disappointed with? A few songs fall flat, such as their version of "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get",which sounds like it's missing something.Ditto for "Neither One Of Us".These songs need more background vocals or something....the arrangements are too quiet and uneventful.

I never liked "Standing in the Shadows" Or "After the Dance." "Let Love Take Control" is kinda lame, and the 2 you mentioned. But for 17 songs I say I like almost 12 quite a bit, so that to me is a good cd, and money well spent.. ______________________________________________

Oddly enough, this CD doesn't include a remake of the 1972 Billy Paul hit "Me and Mrs.Jones".They've been performing that song at recent concerts, and they have always talked about recording a studio version. There is an import version of this CD that includes one bonus track,a remake of the old Nilson hit "Without You" (Mariah Carey covered this song in the 90s).

I have the live version of "Me and MRs Jones" and I looooove it! I also have "Whats Goin On" live which is real nice as well.. I saw them this summer with Michael McDonald, it was a blast.. my only regret was that H&O didnt play a full set, it was kind of the Soul revue idea, so they fooled a round a bit, but it was still my favorite show of the summer.. well next to someone else....mmm.. I can't remember what my #1 show was this summer...mmm... [Edited 1/5/05 19:56pm] ______________________________________________
