top 10 artist of all time

THE Red Hot Chili Peppers have entered the record books to become one of the 100 most successful recording artists of all time.

The Guinness British Hit Singles and Albums book ranks artists every year according to how many weeks they have spent in the UK singles and albums charts.

This year, the US band are the only new entry - making it to number 97.

British Hit Singles & Albums editor David Roberts said: “It’s very rare to get new acts breaking into the Top 100, so this really is an incredible achievement”.

Elvis Presley still tops the list having notched up 2463 weeks in the UK singles and albums charts - more than the time he was alive for.

Spandau Ballet has fallen out of the top 100, while Michael Jackson is the highest climber as he is now number eight.

The acts which have climbed the list include The Stereophonics to 84, The Corrs to 89; Guns n’ Roses to 74; and Robbie Williams to 43.

And Bruce Springsteen, Electric Light Orchestra, Blur and Mike Oldfield have all fallen positions.

According to the list’s compilers Britney Spears, Eminem, Westlife, Radiohead and Iron Maiden all have a chance of getting in the prestigious list next year.

Top 10

1. Elvis Presley
2. Cliff Richard
3. Beatles
4. Queen
5. Madonna
6. Elton John
7. The Shadows
8. Michael Jackson
9. David Bowie
10. U2

I know! lol But, to be fair, I actually like a lot of his 50s/60s stuff. Some of them early singles were fine. I think it's criminal not to like a song just because you don't like the artist. wink

I don't know a lot of his music really... but as a teenager I was very jealous cause he used to hang around with Olivia Newton John mad

pssst! I also have a Cliff Richard 12 inch in my collection... but for my defense I have to bring in it's arranged, produced and played by Stevie Wonder smile

You don't really need to know much of his work past the 60s, anyway.

Someone who could smear shit on vinyl, ship it off to the stores, and still chart in the Top 5.
