Didn't Crystal Waters do a song called "She's Homeless", or something like that?
That was pretty good.

"Gypsy Woman" la da dee, la da doo, la da dee, la da doo

She wakes up early every morning
Just to do her hair now
Because she cares yeah

Her day oh wouldn't be right
Without her make up
She's never had a make up

She's just like you and me
But she's homeless, she's homeless
As she stands there singing for money.

How about Wolfsheim's "Once In A Lifetime"?

God, I just remembered one of their other tracks that used to get played a lot a few years ago, "I Don't Love You Anymore." I always had a frown on my face when dancing to that one.

That's "synthpop", really. From what I can remember it's not the worst song in the world though.

my favorite is Typical Reasons (Swing My Way) by Prince Markie Dee and the Soul Convention...i love jamming to this song, but feel guilty since it's about spousal abuse. Even in the video, the girl gets killed by her boyfriend at the end, if i remember correctly.

I love this song. The whole album was nice. He had Billy Lawrence singing on the track "Trippin Out" which I loved too. Alot of people don't realize that he does production work for alot of artists. I believe he produced "Real Love" for Mary J. Blige (I have to pull out my CD and look at the credits again but I'm almost sure). Not bad for a former "Fat Boy" biggrin.

It's on Prince Markie Dee and The Soul Convention debut album entitled "Free"...She's actually down with Prince Markie and is singing on more than one track. "Trippin' Out" was played alot on radio, you may know it when you hear it. The album cover is blue, if I can find it I will post it for you.

someone said "together again" and, while i can see how it can be viewed as depressing, i've always thought the song to be extremely celebratory. anyway...some songs that come to my mind (though not necessarily "dance" songs but certainly upbeat):

what's the matter here - 10k maniacs
my name is luca - suzanne vega
pearls (dance remix) - sade
young americans - david bowie (yeah, i really do think this song is depressing)

My name is Luka
I live on the 2nd floor
I live upstairs from you
Yes I think you've seen me before
If you hear something late at night
Some kind of trouble, some kind of fight
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
Just don't ask me what it was
I think it's because I'm clumsy
I try not to talk too loud
Maybe it's because I'm crazy
I try not to act too proud
They only hit until you cry
And after that you don't ask why
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore
You just don't argue anymore

I used to listen to this song like crazy.

oh, i got that. i was saying i don't think it is a depressing topic. not only is the tone celebratory but the song, as a whole, is very optimistic rather than depressive. to each their own, though.

It's not really a dance song as such (altho' you can dance to it if you're club-footed) but the Bee Gees' Tragedy is a fine example of downbeat lyrics set to upbeat music.

Club-footed? I would think anyone with a club foot would have a hard time dancing, lol. I know what you really meant.

For the record, "Tragedy" by the Bee Gees went to #22 on Billboard's U.S dance chart back in 1979 so a few people were dancing to it.

I never knew that. Thanks for the info. wink
