Black Tambourine by Beck

This song is the JAM. headbang

It's a bit like "Kiss" or George Michael's "Faith" in that it's very spare and funky and has a strong rhythm guitar line, but it's just got that Beck nastiness going on...yet at the same time, his sound's mellowing since "Sea Change", and his take on funk isn't quite as nasty or "wacky" as Midnite Vultures or Odelay...still...my goodness this is a good track. I hope it's a single. I hope the DJs and mash-up geeks have a field day with it. It's yummy.

Anyone heard it yet?

all i can say is "it's around" - the new beck album is all over the place, sadly enough...though i'm sure what's floating around the internet isn't half of what the final product's gonna sound like. still - "black tambourine" is The Deal, and "Scarecrow" is pretty cool too.

actually, it's supposed to be out in february...i wonder if this leak will push it back or do the opposite? i mean, my attitude is, if *I* can find it, it's pretty much leaked as leaked can be.

If anything, if this is the final stages of the album.. it needs to be put out quickly.. true fans will buy the cd's but its a good idea (record label wise) to get it out before its leaked liek this..

this usually means the promos are out and about.. thus bein the final draft of the album

yeah, i'll get the actual album, definitely. mp3 stuff like this is more like thumbnail sketches to me - i want the finished product, with good sound and liner notes and the whole experience.

i know not everyone's like that, though...

it's got the maturity of sea change...he goes into that deep sting sounding voice a lot, and the lush strings are all over the place - there's funky stuff like on odelay and midnite vultures, but it's a little more restrained now...but it doesn't sound stiff or stuffy at all. just a bit mellowed. there's some tropicalia sounds on here, too - kinda bits and pieces of everything he's done so far, really.

mmkay.. well the way everyone has it.. i just cant believe thats the order of the tracklisting.. I shifted mine around for the time its not out..

I got Black Tambourine opening it...

and Scarecrow ending it..

aint not way he'd let Hell Yeah end an album.

If you think his new album sounds a bit "dusty," Beck won't take it personally. In fact, it's probably a compliment.

For his sixth major-label album, the eclectic songwriter is working with the Dust Brothers, a.k.a. the production duo of Mike

Simpson and John King, who helped him craft 1996's Odelay and 1999's Midnite Vultures. The album was recorded and is currently being mixed in Los Angeles in preparation for an October release date, according to Beck's publicist.

Although it may contain a few somber tunes, the as-yet-untitled album is expected to be a complete shift from Beck's last LP, 2002's Sea Change, which brimmed with wistful, melancholy ballads.

The new songs are noticeably more upbeat, and considering the Dust Brothers' track record, which includes work with the Beastie Boys (Paul's Boutique) and Hanson (Middle of Nowhere), the new album should be a lot more danceable.

Since the release of Sea Change, Beck has covered "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime," a 1980 tune by British group the Korgis, for the soundtrack to "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." He'll also be recording a rendition of Daniel Johnston's "True Love Will Find You in the End" for the upcoming Johnston tribute album, Covered, Uncovered, due August 24.
-----

Sounds about right.. although I dont recal on this entire album (if this is every track.. which I believe it is) there isnt really any slow tunes... just about every song is noticably upbeat

Beck is even back doin a rapish tune... its hot!
