About 10 Years ago............

.....Vh1 decided to go on a nostalgic trip. That was when they started to bring back all the great 80's Pop, Rock, SOul and New Wave videos, and that was when I started tuning in. MTV was dead to me by then, so I looked to VH1 as the alternative. They had programs like "My Generation", "What Ever Happened To..?" and of course"The Big 80's". They even decided to bring back reruns of "American Bandstand" . But it was around that time that I officially became a dedicated 80's/New Wave fanatic. It was VH1 that opened (or rather, "re-opened") me up to those cool videos of the 80's. Those were the days. smile While everyone else was into Bone Thugs, Mariah Carey, and Dave Matthews, I said "fuck that shit. I WANT MY NEW WAVE!!!!!". It was my saving grace. smile

It's sad and ironic now because all them great videos have migrated to VH1 Classic (which I enjoy). It's not like I'm missing those videos period, but the regular VH1 station isn't really representing them anymore. Now that station has decided to become the E! Channel. God, I hate those stupid fucking programs they show with all those C-list showbiz panelists. VH1 needs to get back to the music. mad

I was a big fan of pop up video. So much really obscure info on the artist video which was also irrelevent at times too. Even if I did not like the song I still watch the video.

Their fist mistake was mishandling "Daria". Their second was cancelling it. Now there's absolutely NOTHING worth watching on the network.

I must say though that it is telling that their biggest hit is actually music based (TRL). You'd think they'd catch a hint.

Yeah, I don't know why they took it off. They used to show really obscure/rarely-seen videos like Jermaine Jackson's "Dynamite" and Latoya's "The Heart Don't Lie." I learned a lot of stuff from that show about certain videos.

I never knew paula Abdul choreographed "torture" untill pop up video! What an odd video that was.....Both Jacko and jermane were absent. Fuck knows why?

Around 1995, when I was in highschool, VH-1 had a show called "Four on the Floor" where 4 music critics sat around and actually talked about music. Anthony D'Curtis from Rolling Stone hosted the show that came on Sundays around mid-morning. I loved that show and we need shows like that on tv.

By the way, there is absolutely nothing on MTV worth watching. I outgrew MTV about 3 years ago. Its crap.

This reminds me of a show MTV had in 1997 called "12 Angry Viewers" hosted by Ananda Lewis. A mixed assemblage of college-aged youth sat around and rated music videos, the video that survived that week would be put into rotation on MTV. I remember they praised Janet's "Together Again" video and it went into "12 Angry Viewers"-approved rotation on the channel.

Man, I miss those days.

lol And now I see both of those videos (and cheesy as they are, I love them) in regular rotation on VH1 Classic.

I remember all that. Back at that time, I constantly had a tape in my VCR so I didn't miss anything. VH1 used to have "American Bandstand", "Solid Gold", "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert", "8 Track Flashback", and "The Big 80s".

The last time I saw anything good on VH1 was in the year 2001. The channel had already pretty much gone to hell by then, but on Thursday nights, from 11 p.m. - 12 Midnight (Central Time), they used to play old 1970s videos, concert clips, or whatever was available at the time. During each commercial break, they were promoting their new channel, VH1 Classic. My complaint is that VH1 Classic is only available in my area on a cable package that costs more money and VH1 Classic is the only channel I would like in that package.

Yep, I used to love this show (and even back then, I knew I shouldn't have gotten into it because there was no WAY it was gonna last.) The four critics were J.D. Considine, Scott Poulson Bryant (of Vibe Magazine), Amy-forgot her last name and then there would be a musician of the week sitting in. Terence Trent D'Arby was on one show, Dionne Farris, Cyndi Lauper...as a matter of fact, I remember on the Cyndi show, she wound up getting into a bit of an arguement with Amy over whether Sheryl Crow relied on her looks to sell her music (if I remember right, Cyndi was pro-Sheryl). The best segment was the last one where the panelists would talk about their current favorite CD...one week, Bryant picked Gold Experience and another week, Amy picked Foo Fighters debut LP which she liked because it wasn't bogged down with all that "angsty Nirvana crap".

Can't believe how much I remember about this show!!!

Now you see, I miss all them cool shows like "Pop Up Video" and "4 On The Floor". They evern had this cool reality show called "Bands on The Run".

Wasn't VH1's slogan "Music First" at some point?

Well they certainly don't live up to that these days. mad

Do any of you all remember when they kept bringing back Pop Up with different little thingys and the reason nobody sees it anymore is because nobody watched it when they tried to save it
