Don't even get me started on They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) - which is exactly what we're doing smile I used to wear that one out.

I heard that song was written in memory of the late Trouble T-Roy of Heavy D. and the Boys.

One of the best lines in hip-hop was uttered in that song:

"I strive to be live 'cause I got no choice."

I did not know that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Primo, & Rick yeah but Bomb squad and Dre... good but not the greatest. One of my fav Pete Rock Beat is Das EFx Real Hip hop (remix)

The Bomb Squad produced the greatest hip-hop album of all time (It Takes a Nation of Millions . . .) and arguably one of the greatest tracks of any genre of the last 20 years (Rebel Without A Pause). IMHO, that alone earns them greatness. They not only changed the sound of hip-hop, but of pop music in general.

Dre, I kinda see where you're comin' from, but look at his body of work overall and objectively you have to consider him great.

In about 5 years, Madlib will immediately come to mind, rest assured.

err how could I forget "nations". But If you say madlib (and I agree) you gotta put 9th Wonder and Jaydee in that equation

They made some of the best hip hop that can be found. You started off casually listening to them then,Corey's lyrics and smooth flow mixed w/Pete's signature grooves just hooked you. I never understood why they stopped making music together. That's a shame. They were onto something.

Can't disagree with you on that.

They made quintessential, top-shelf, vintage East Coast hip-hop.

vintage hip hop period. pete even laced Mc Eight with some heat. That song from the high school high strk has a pete joint with large professor called the rap worlds which is nice.
