Pete Rock & CL Smooth What ever happened to CL Smooth and why did the duo went their seperate ways?
I know CL did a few cuts on Pete Rocks "Soul Survivor 2" which is a tight album at it's best. But he was featured as a guest artist. Can anyone explain why they broke up? Their last cd "The Main Engriedient" is a classic by the way!

Agreed on all counts. I am curious myself as to why these cats don't work together more. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

I saw them on a reunion tour this year, in promotion of the new songs on Soul Survivor 2 on BBE Records, and their Best Of collection on Rhino Records.

Don't know what happened to them, but they're definitely missed.
Loved "T.R.O.Y." ...and their spot in the Sprite "Obey Your Thirst" commercial! I know y'all remember that rap.

Love "T.R.O.Y." but "The Main Ingredient" may be their hottest joint ever. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Pete is arguably the best Hip Hop Producer of all time. Soul Survivor I is a lil better than the new one but that song Appreciate on there is dope. "Thinking like the Keys on Prince's piano, we'll be just fine"

You could make that argument, he's definitely the quintessential hip-hop producer. But Primo, Rick Rubin, The Bomb Squad, Dr. Dre and the incomparable Madlib work their way into that convo too! Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Don't even get me started on They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.) - which is exactly what we're doing I used to wear that one out. I remember thinking Mic Checka by Das EFX was Pete Rock and CL Smooth at first.

I think Jam and Lewis tried to get hard on "rub u the right way". Before that Jam/lewis were just pop producers (heavily influenced by Newjack though) I love the vid to "rub u the right way". Johnny trying to dance. Too funny.....

Primo, & Rick yeah but Bomb squad and Dre... good but not the greatest. One of my fav Pete Rock Beat is Das EFx Real Hip hop (remix) "Thinking like the Keys on Prince's piano, we'll be just fine"

One of my fav Pete Rock Beat is Das EFx Real Hip hop (remix) The Bomb Squad produced the greatest hip-hop album of all time (It Takes a Nation of Millions . . .) and arguably one of the greatest tracks of any genre of the last 20 years (Rebel Without A Pause). IMHO, that alone earns them greatness. They not only changed the sound of hip-hop, but of pop music in general. Dre, I kinda see where you're comin' from, but look at his body of work overall and objectively you have to consider him great. In about 5 years, Madlib will immediately come to mind, rest assured.
