AMEL LARRIEUX...

Smoove smoove soul voice, sadly underrated and overlooked...

1995 - "Tell Me" and "Keep Tryin'" from the Groove Theory CD

1996 - "You Will Rise" & "Gaze" from the Sweetback CD (SADE's band)

2000 - first solo album "Infinite Possibilites" featuring...

"Get Up", "Searchin' For My Soul" and "Weather"

2003 - second solo album "BRAVEBIRD" featuring...

"For Real", "We Can Be New" and the ultra fonkee "Giving Something Up"

don't sleep on this beautiful singer.

I love Amel's stuff, and IMO, Groove Theory was one of the few good things about pop music in the 90's....

and other talentless people chair are averywhere instead. wall

Love Amel's collaborations with Glen Lewis "What's come over me" & "Where is the love"

She's been very prolific and has lots of collaborations... I hope I someday gather all of them...

BTW, Does anybody can help me with info about her non-album works???

Peace

Bryce was hosting "Weekend Vibe" VIBE magazine sydicated TV show. I don't know if he does anymore. He's a pretty good producer. Bryce produced En Vouge's "don't let Go" And personally I think the Groove theory material is better than Amel's solo efforts. Amel and Bryce had a good musical chemistry.

Didn't Byrce & Amel have a falling out?

And why every time I think of his name I want to call him "Byron"? razz

Where have U guys ben? I've been talking about her since February trying to get people to go 2 her website ( http://www.blisslife.com/...rtists.php )

and lend support. Her album is along the lines of a Jill Scott. Vocally she is brilliant and musically she is more on the Erika Badu side. Real instruments, jazz, blues, some rock n roll. I don't understand why some major label (Bad Boy or even Motown) doesn't pick her up?

I can only guess that she doesn't want 2 be with a major label because that can damage her artistic freedom.

Her Groove Theory stuff is fine, but it's not her own words and it was very basic R&B... Her own music in her own words is far deeper and covers far more types of music like jazz and neo soul.

Amel wrote all of those song on the Groove Theory Album.Except "hello it's me". And "Good to me" and "Didja Know" were co written with her husband.

I have the Groove Theory cd, and saw an interview with Amel... If you look at the songs on Groove song list... It lists Bryce Wilson as the first writer of most of the songs, and Amel said most of the work was his vision not hers, that's one of the reasons she left to go solo!

I love her album, she's very pretty too.
tho' I battled blind

memories mar my mind
love it is a fate resigned

Over futile odds
and laughed at by the Gods
and now the final frame

I'm sorry I disagree.

In the Groove Theory liner notes turn to the page where there is Bryce' Black and white photo.

Ok if first says All songs Arranged Compsed and produced by Bryce Wilson

Then go down to the next paragraph and it says:

All LYRICS by Amel Larrieux except "Time Flies' 'Good 2 Me' "Keep tryin" and Didja know Written by Amel Larruex and Laru Larrieux.

'Hello it's me' by Todd Rundgren.

It doesn't matter what the liner notes says..... AMEL said it in her own words!!! Besides the lyrics are only half the job... You must have a musical direction when composing a song andBryce was most if not all the driving force in that regard. Her solo work is more an indication of her personal statement!
