The Who,Queen or Aerosmith-Best band?

The Who,Queen or Aerosmith? If you had to pick one of the groups and never again hear the music of the other two;who would you pick?

Queen! I think Aerosmith were/are really overrated, nothing special really, and although The Who were a brilliant band, Queen were alot better. Freddie's stage presence..the songwriting on the first bunch of albums..Brian May's playing..thumbs up!

I'm sorry...I really REALLY like Queen, but I can't imagine a world without "Tommy" and "Baba O'Riley" and everything else great The Who has done.

And Townshend isn't a pedophile. no no no!

P.S. I really loved that story, too. "I was just doing research!" falloff

Exactly...I don't want to derail/jack this thread...but...
Perhaps my morals are behind the times, but when someone is caught with gigabytes upon gigabytes of kiddy porn on their computer and video tapes of said disgusting matter, that makes them a pedophile.
Research for his autobiography...yeah, right...
Who (*snicker*) needs to do research by looking a pictures of children being tortured to write a story of THEIR OWN LIFE?!?!?
I'm done now...

Research! RESEARCH! falloff

Sorry, that still makes me crack up to this day. Can't believe that was the best he could come up with.

it wasn't research for his autobiography. he has indeed been working on an ongoing project about child sexual abuse throughout his life. check out his web site and get the facts straight on his side of the story...unless of course, one simply just WANTS to believe he's a pedophile because it makes for good scandal in one's otherwise boring life. shrug

I'd never read that there was an exact amount on his computer, but less "gigabytes and gigabytes."

Back to the question at hand...

Since you used the term "Best Band", it's The Who.
From My Generation through Who Are You this is a band whose sound is based on 4 distinctive sounds.

1. Pete Townsend's guitar/songs (An anti-guitar hero. "I'm a chord man.")
2. Keith Moon's drums (Wild insane drumming driving the band)
3. John Entwhistle's bass (Many things I thought were guitar parts are his bass)
4. Roger Daltrey's voice (Not a great singer but he sold the songs)

After the death of Moon the band still survived on the power of Townsend's songwriting (Another Tricky Day, Eminence Front, Athena), but it was obvious the band missed the Moon-fire.

IMO, outside of Freddy Mercury's voice/persona/songs and Brian May's guitar/songs, in terms of a band, the drummer and bass player could have been almost anybody willing to play the parts (no disrespect to John Deacon and Roger Taylor). And yes I know that John Deacon wrote their biggest selling single in the States. But some might say that this was a double-edged sword as it turned the musical direction of their next major release (Hot Space) away from their rock base.

Aerosmith? A good no-frills American rock band. Nothing wrong with that.

I see I'm in the minority here, but Aerosmith. Don't care for either of the other bands.

I'm partial to Queen.

But a world with no Who would be a loss and I think they may have had greater impact on music in general.

Aerosmith a distant third.

Pete Townshend isn't a paedophile.

I absolutely believe in his innocence. He really was doing research.

Eighteen months or so before his arrest he was posting articles on his website about child porn on the internet and the best ways to stamp it out. He suggested that the best solution would be for credit card companies to refuse to do business with paedophile websites.

I think one of the things which motivated him to do something was when his then ten year old son typed the word "teen" into a search engine and brought up a billion kiddie porn sites.

Reading Pete's postings, it was quite apparent that he had viewed at least one such website. You have to know your enemy to fight him.

At the time Pete accessed the website (in January 2001) he informed the police about what he'd done and why he'd done it in an e mail. He also informed an internet watch organisation at the same time. The organisation later confirmed his story and produced the e mail. The police (conveniently?) lost theirs.

The police didn't charge him because they found no incriminating material on his computer. The reason was that he viewed a child porn website but did not download any of the material.

Pete was cautioned (i.e: given a formal warning) by the police because he used his credit card to access a child porn site. Paying to view child porn is illegal in the UK, but this didn't become law until January 2002, meaning that what Townshend did wasn't even illegal in 2001.

The papers have all these facts, but they never bothered to run the story because the one they went with was so much better. This is a great pity - as is the fact that they never widely reported the fact that Pete's bust and the publicity the police operation against internet paedophiles got, helped force the major credit card companies to stop doing business with paedophilic websites.

Pete Townshend was naive and misguided in how he went about things, yes, but he's absolutely NOT a criminal and certainly no paedophile.

Aerosmith by a landslide. They have so much more soul and funk than the other two. Now, if AC/DC or Led Zeppelin were among the choices that would create a much bigger dilemma for me!
If you've got funk, you've got style.

Pagey

The Who by a mile. Tommy, Who's Next, Live at Leeds, Qudrophenia, Who Are You...all classics that have stood the test of time.

Aerosmith is great too but slid down on my list after that god-awful horrible ballad from Armageddon a few years back.

I love Queen too but they've always been strictly a singles band for me. Love their 2 Greatest Hits collections...but their albums were patchy for me...just my opinion of course, since I know there are a lot of rabid Freddie fans out there.

Got to be AEROSMITH for me. I like The Who & Queen, but both of those bands can be too over the top for me sometimes (especially Queen).
If I want your opinion, I'll beat it outta ya!
