Dusty 60's Record Of The Day: "Spanish Harlem" By Ben E. King I've always dug this version betta than Aretha's remake(even tho she does everything justice).
Ben has that 'quite fire' in his voice,,,,it irks the hell outta me how he's getting overlooked among soul greats.

This is better than Aretha's for me, too.
That man had such a fine, fine voice.

You people are out of your minds. Aretha's version can actually be considered "definitive" when you get right down to it. The woman took the song to church, AND to the symphony. Ain't nothin about King's version majestic, as it is with Aretha's version.
Learn it. Live with it. Make it a part of your life. ` [Edited 12/31/04 13:19pm] This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

There's a vast difference between a more expansive arrangement and overproduction. They ain't one and the same. Besides, the only thing he arranged on the whole thing was the flute and background vocals. Going off the top of my head, it's a Jerry Wexler production. Ben's version has a human quality feel to it
King's has a demo feel to it by comparison. ` [Edited 12/31/04 13:54pm] This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.
