You gotta respect his taste in music. i was looking of itunes and this is his playlist.

walk away from love-david Ruffin

best of my love-the emotions

i choose you-willie hutch (the mack soundtrack)

you turned my whole world around-barry white

to be true-harold melvin& the blue notes

disco lady- johnny Taylor

i wanna do something freaky to you-Leon haywood

sanctified lady-marvin gaye

young hearts be free-candi staton

i'm in love(and i love the feeling)-rose royce

these are mostly 70s soul music at it's best. yeah i bought his album and i gotta tell you there is only maybe 2 or 3 tracks that sound like something. the rest is garbage. since "doggy style" he fell off quite a bit.

Let's see if I'm touching all the bases with Snoop and what he glorifies:

* promotion of drug use that leads to a lack of productivity -- often among poorer, darker youths,

* promotion of gang activity and crimes that plague poorer, darker youths in particular,

* degradation and explotation of women -- often, again, darker ones and leading to further emulation by often poorer, darker youths...

But, I'm glad he (or one of his handlers) think enough of '70s music to give it props. That's ... wonderful...

Many people have good taste in music, but that doesn't make them saints. The only thing I respect about Snoop is his ability to stay relevant as celebrity despite having crappy albums.

i'm quite aware to the many negative things that Snoop contributes to music and the affect it has on the Black community as a whole. i am also quite aware of the sexist lyrics that exist in his music as well. i'm also aware by now that even though he has good taste in music doesn't make him a saint-i never said he was, hell none of us are. This thread was not to be directed at those aspects. if that was my intentions i would have posted in the the p&r forum where i usually wander. simply i just wanted to talk about music and the artists that are in his playlist. you don't have to respect the man...just the music. oh, good grief.

It's true that he shouldn't glorify problems in inner city areas, but that's a problem in rap in general.

When he performed 'Murder was the case that they gave me' at the VMAs in 94 (I think) I couldn't help but love him. I thought he was great. 'Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$' was a good CD.
Today, I'm not so thrilled by his stuff.

Sure, but they also get the wrong kind of reinforcement about drugs and gangs from artists in constant rotation on MTV, BET and in films. (And none of this precludes the importance of parents setting boundaries for their children. But the power of pop culture to influence young people is well documented.)

Snoop is one of the most ubiquitous rappers on the scene today, and his pimp routine is weak and tired.

Sure, so we agree, then, that his act is a negative one?

yes he is negative. even his first album "doggystyle" which was a very good album in terms of music arrangement and production but the message was negative. there's no question about that.

Okay his list is cool but, he is not. I think when you bring two sisters to the MTV awards with dog chains around there necks you kind of set yourself up to be on the black communities shit list for life.
