You know, I think much of Madonna's True Blue album has the girl group sound. I can imagine the Supremes doing Papa Don't Preach (similar to Love Child) or True Blue. I guess that's why she had a pseudo-50s look back then.

"True Blue" was very girl groupish. Not sure about "Papa".

But we all remember the True Blue video.

I think she was also reaching for that 50s girl group sound on "Cherish" as well.
