R&B/Soul Songs With Country Feel/Steel Guitar In Them

I love Soul/RnB songs with country feel in them but I don't know much:

You & I-Stevie Wonder
Walking In The Sun-Chaka Khan
Complain-Tweet

I don't know if I'm sure about this but I can hear some:

Do Right Woman, Do Right Man-Aretha Franklin.

Mind to extend that list?

No, I ment "You & I". I'm not sure if there's a steel guitar in there but it has a heavy country feel.

The 1st one that came to mind was Dorothy Moore's, or Joe Simon's for that matter, version of Misty Blue.
(original hit by country artist Wilma Burgess)

I'll probably think of some more later.

OK-

Stevie Wonder: Too Shy To Say

Dione Farris: I Know

Bill Withers: Can We Pretend

Meshell N'degeocello: My Soul Don't Dream(with Keb Mo')

Chi Lites: Oh Girl (this always sounded like it had a country feel to me...)

Hell this practically IS a country song, a badass funky country song, but it could definitely be covered by any country artist

i can give you a million of them... but here's a few

"he'll have to go" by solomon burke (originally jim reeves)

"if we're not back in love by monday" by millie jackson (originally merle haggard)

that kate bush song that maxwell did... "woman's work" or something... i can't remember...

"it makes no difference now" by the supremes

"for the good times" by al green (kristofferson) & "funny how time slips away" by al green (willie nelson) and "i'm so lonesome i could cry" by al green (hank williams)...

i think that soul and country mix wonderfully together... and i think a lot of southern soul artists did that very well... and when you think of a lot of the great soul artists (james carr, ray, aretha, king solomon, otis) they had a strong country influence... and, at that same time, your great country singers (lefty frizell, merle haggard, george jones) sing with an awful lot of soul... in fact, george jones has recorded with b.b. king, the staple singers, and ray charles... biggrin

you're right though, that tweet song is off the chain... i bought the cd for "smokin' cigarettes" after i saw her do it on mtv... i never really cared for "oops" (although it has grown on me)... but when i got to complain, i was like, "damn this is different"... and "motel"... "go to hell, baby"... nod... she killed it...

You have to include Dark End Of The Street, which, like Do Right Woman, was written by Muscle Shoals' Dan Penn and Chips Moman.

The Flying Burrito Brothers, featuring the amazing and horribly underrated Gram Parsons, have wonderful versions of both of these songs. Pedal steel galore.

I was going to say "Sail On" the beginning verse is straight country. Also "Old Fashion Love" by the Commodores basically because of the way Lionel sings the song. The music is pure funk, but the vocals sound country.

Yeah. That sounds about as "country" as Ice Cube's "Now I Gotta Wet 'Cha" lol

On the other hand , according to Supernova , Funkadelic's "One Nation Under A Groove" contains a banjo...

I always thought Neither One of Us by Gladys Knight & The Pips sounded kinda country. Then I was reading the liner notes on a compilation and learned that it was the first of several songs written for them by a guy who wroter country songs.
