Another Gwen Stefani Thread I'm sorry, but "What You Waiting For?" WILL NOT QUIT -- the Original + and that super-hot Jacques Lu Cont's TWD Mix.
I literally ran 4 miles today with WYWF? on repeat. When I'm out and this song comes on, it's like some spirit comes over me. This song is hypnotic. I haven't felt like this about a song since Janet's "All Nite (Don't Stop)" (well, almost). You cannot keep me off the dancefloor when Gwen comes on. ::lying in bed with sleep in my eyes, looks at the sun crack through my blinds:: ::falls out of bed::: Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock ::hypnotic spell, dances to rhythm:: Like a cat in heat, stuck in a moving car A scary conversation, shut my eyes, can't find the brake (A-wOoh, WooH, Woo) What if they say that you're a climber (BaA, BaH, Bah, Bah, Bah*!) Naturally, I'm worried if I do it alone Who really cares, cause it's your life You never know, it could be great Take a chance cause you might grow Oh, ah, oh ::flies through the air:: Like an echo pedal, you're repeating yourself You know it all by Why are you standing in one place Born to blossom, bloom to perish Your moment will run out Cause of your sex chromosome I know it's so messed up, how our society all thinks (for sure) Life is short, you're capable (uh-huh) Oh, ah, oh Look at your watch now You're still a super hot female You got your million-dollar contract And they're all waiting for your hot track What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting for What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting for ::touches a star*:: I can't wait to go back and do Japan Get me lots of brand new fans Osaka, Tokyo You Harajuku girls Damn, you've got some wicked style Go ::speeds up:: Oh, ah, oh Look at your watch now You're still a super hot female You got your million-dollar contract And they're all waiting for your hot track Tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting for What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting What you waiting for What you waiting for What you waiting for ::reaches ascension, climbs towards the sky then suddenly falls:: ::opens eyes and discover I fell out of my bed with the alarm clock buzzing next to me::::

I actually thought What You Waiting For was pretty ordinary the first time i heard it(saw the video online), but its grown on me. Funny when I first bought the album I had Hollaback Girl on repeat. i played the shit out of it. Oh course now I'm burned out on it and I've gotten around to giving the rest of the album a good listen and I really enjoy it

Here's some stuff about Jimmy & Terry working on Gwen's "Harajuku Girls":
"She's one of those people we admired from afar," said Jimmy Jam, who with his writing and producing partner Terry Lewis set the R&B standard in the 1980s, most notably on the Janet Jackson albums "Control" and "Rhythm Nation." "We had this picture of her, this sexy, fun, strong, talented girl, and we didn't know if that would be shattered. It was enhanced beyond anything we can imagine." Jam and Lewis co-wrote and produced "Harajuku Girls," an electrofunk trip trumpeting Stefani's fascination with Japanese schoolgirls who hang out in the hip Harajuku neighborhood of Tokyo and mix second-hand clothes with designer fashions. Their maverick aesthetics became Stefani's creative beacon on this album - she mentions them by name frequently throughout the album. With her concept intact, the singer and lyricist approached her collaborators (among them Dr. Dre, Dallas Austin, OutKast's Andre 3000, Pharrell Williams, Linda Perry, and longtime No Doubt cohort Tony Kanal) with a nonnegotiable vision: Stefani wanted to make a modern dance record steeped in the '80s sounds she loved as a teenager, from Lisa Lisa and Depeche Mode to Club Nouveau and Missing Persons to her great inspiration: Prince. "She wasn't looking for ready-made tracks," Jam said. "Gwen had strong ideas about the stamp she wanted to put on her solo album and what each of her collaborators would bring to the party. She came in the first day for what we thought was just going to be a meeting, and as she was talking about her ideas I started a keyboard thing, another guy in the studio started a beat, Terry got on his laptop and Googled 'Harajuku,' and Gwen called Gavin and said, 'I'm going to be late.' We handed her a microphone and she started singing. She had great lyric ideas. She goes after everything with this youthful exuberance. It was very organic, and a lot of what we did during that initial few hours ended up making the record."

One thing I never mentioned was... I don't hear an 80s sound at ALL on "Rich Girl".

Actually, "Rich Girl" is starting to annoy me. There's something incredibly repetitive and boring about it after you hear "If I was a rich girl NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA" for the 100th time. Because that constitutes about 95% of the lyrics.

I also feel the positive effects of WYWF as described by JANFAN above.

Gwen is the definition of sellout. Her poor band, they were just as talented as her if not more.
This cd is ok, but it could never compare to her No Doubt material. It was a band effort.

This cd is ok, but it could never compare to her No Doubt material. It was a band effort. She hasn't left them. She's just doing her solo thing. Plus, didn't all of them essentially "sell out" when "Tragic Kingdom" blew up almost ten years ago?

That's when I started to lose interest.....they did gain new fans during that time though. And an even newer fan base with Rock Steady. I mean I still like ND overall. I just miss the ska songs. looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

I have to admit this album has definitely grown on me too, even though I started a thread a few weeks ago about how I thought it wasn't that great. Now it's one of my albums of the year!

I find these lines to be REALLY DEEP:
Born to blossom, bloom to perish Your moment will run out Cause of your sex chromosome I know it's so messed up how our society all thinks. Gwen, I feel you. I love this song.

I didn't realize Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did "Harajuku Girls". Why couldn't they use that ingenuity for the last 2 albums of crapola with Janet? Maybe Janet gets the "ready-made tracks", lol. If you ask me, the LuCont mix of "What You Waiting For" should have been the album version.

This CD is GREAT for working out. The first 3 songs keep me on that Treadmil, especially Rich Girl, my song of the month. It's a great CD period. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Also, there's something very addictive about it. I wake up with "Crash" and "Serious" in my head a lot of times. It won't go away until I play the songs. "Pole Position," edit. . [Edited 12/23/04 10:00am]

I didn't either at first, but material like this makes me want them on Janet's next album even more. If you ask me, the LuCont mix of "What You Waiting For" should have been the album version
The Lu Cont mix is stellar.
