That's what I hate about rock music today. The audience and media jump on one bandwagon for the "hot, new, uncompromising, underground, `real' band," proceed to take them mainstream, then forget them and move on to another ironically/kitschy named "hot" band. That's what happened to the Strokes, I fear.

Except the White Stripes and Interpol seem to be gaining in popularity. Who knows? Maybe cuz they're a one trick pony. shrug

I never got them. But yeah, it was one of those hot new band things that everyone jumped on. But to be honest their debut did modestly so maybe they didn't drop off quite as dramatically as it seems.

The White Stripes on the other hand are simply wonderful.

I saw them live a year ago, together with Gooey. It wasn't a bad show.....I guess their attitude is what killing them.

maybe, but what I was aiming at is their 'too cool for you'- attitude, they are boring to watch and very ungrateful to their fans.....also, the second album wasn't that good!

With Interpol, at least, they did some hype for their first release but were always mentioned at the END of the list of hot bands. I think the fact that they were usually an after thought in the press for the their first CD, allowed them to grow more naturally.

I eventually grew to like th 2nd Strokes release. More of the same? sure. But it's still a lot of fun. Once I gave up on the hype I had accepted from the press I was able to just go back and enjoy them as a silly, fun band.

I still haven't gotten into it. It wasn't that I didn't like it either. There were just a lot of other things at the time that got my attention. Ian actually prefers their second one and plays it all the time and it's nice enough to hear, but I haven't had the urge to put either of their albums on in a couple years. I guess the novelty just wore off.

I mean, they're a really good band. They were welcome at the time they came out. They just don't seem to have anything lasting to offer.
