The Libertines's new album...

Who has heard it? I just love their image, for starters. I have only heard the album twice now. I am kinda in the middle...

What Became Of The Likely Lads

Please don't get me wrong
See I forgive you in a song
Will call the Likely Lads
But if it's left to you
I know exactly what you'd do
With all the dreams we had

Just blood runs thicker, oh
We're as thick as thieves, you know
If that's important to you
It's important to me
I tried to make you see
But you don't wanna know
You don't want to know!

If you pipe all summer long
Then get forgiven in a song
Well that's a touch, my lad

They sold the rights to all the wrongs
And when they knew you'd give me songs
Welcome back, I said

The blood runs thicker, oh
We're as thick as thieves, you know
If that's important to you
It's important to me
I tried to make you see
But you don't wanna know
You don't want to know!

Oh what became of the Likely Lads?
What became of the dreams we had?
Oh what became of forever?
Oh what became of forever?
Though, we'll never know

Please don't get me wrong
See I forgive you in a song
Will call the Likely Lads

We all bought the ones
We taught 'em all we wrote the songs
That's filled with dreams we have

But blood runs thicker, oh
We're as thick as thieves, you know
If that's important to you
It's important to me
I tried to make you see
But you don't wanna know
You don't want to know!

Oh what became of the Likely Lads?
What became of the dreams we had?
Oh what became of forever?
Oh what became of forever?
We'll never know!

(repeat)

I've only heard part of this one. I liked what I heard, and I like some of their older stuff. I think they would be really good if they stopped fooling around stealing each other's stuff and concentrate on music, lots of potential here. I haven't seen them live yet, that's really where it's at for me. smile

you just pointed out what the hype is about.... it is a catchy album/band. Many fear this will be their last album, considering the weirdness and the serious drug-use of the singer. He is pretty estranged from the band. Thet performed in Amsterdam recently without him.

Also check out the Babyshambles, Pete Doherty's other band.

The Libertines are currently a time-bomb.

The drugs are the problem alright, but if they break up we'll be seeing them in some other arrangement I'm sure.
They remind me of the Clash in some ways, not surprising since Mick Jones was backing them.

I saw a live set of theirs and was totally nonplussed. Maybe the album's better, no?

They are really, really fantastic. I think if they can possibly keep themselves together, which is a long shot really, I think they'll go on to be quite big. The telling lyric from what is my single of the year, 'Can't Stand Me Now'.. "You can't stand me now/but have we enough to keep it together/or do we just go on pretending/and hope our luck is never ending" highlights their predicament making them the subject of so much gossip and rumour that is in danger of overshadowing the music, but, for a band like the Libertines the two are inextricably linked together. Definetly one of the best young bands around.
