Even though this idea of somebody being called the new King of Pop is a joke, it still pisses me off when nobody else is called the new King of Rock and Roll or new Queen of Soul. JT and Usher have only been around for a second, but MJ, who has been around before these cats were even born is now being "dethrone" just because they are the "flavor of the month" and he's going through some personal shit that has nothing to do with his contribution to music history. That's fucked up.

Flavor of the month's i like that lol
yah but i have to admit
Mj has quite the legacy,
he has acomplished a helluva lot, including producing and writing his own music etc...

IF JT and Usher really wan't that title
they need to start breaking some records

To me confessions was shite, and i liked usher (not anymore arogant SOB, tired of seeing his damn naked chest)
8701 was cool, Confessions was Garbage
as For JT
He butchured "Cry Me a River" which i believe was an invincible reject

These 2 are only getting hand outs that MJ rejected himself, and reaping the benefits
Hell its good to live in Michaels shadow

i gotta agree with thriller
aint nobody good enough to be the new king of rock?
c'mon now?
yet we'll sell Mj's seat with to these 2 bone heads

JT, who think he's blacker than wesley Snipes
and Usher who literally wants to F*ck himself

Mr7

Usher will never have the legacy of MJ.

However, MJ never truly was the 'king' of Pop
or anything else. It was a title he attributed
to himself.

It was a bad move in my opinion, as it diminishes
what he has achieved. Pop music tends to be
disposable with a short shelf-life. I would
categorise his music as Soul/ R&B if I had to.

Also the title has caused him problems with sales
expectations. He wants every album to have sales
figures like 'Thriller' and 'Bad', when he would
be much better off making a quality, credible
Soul album, rather than persisting with more
commercial attempts at popular music with
prominent producers.

Peace
Mr7

Michael NEVER EVER proclaimed (or annoineted or whatever) himself to be the king of pop - check your math.

what math? are you gonna provide us with evidence that he didnt declare himself that? as far as most people understand it the monicure was first used in a press release issued by jackson's camp....care to share another story?

As far as Michael, the man himself goes, he never gave instuctions or whatever to be called the king of pop. Elizabeth Taylor said at an award show that in her oppinion he was the king of pop, rock and soul when presenting him with an award. Since then, through various outlets, when looking at this guys musical accomplishments and talent, the title 'king of pop' just 'caught on' then you get fans with banners and t-shirts carrying this name on. Michael says he never gave any sort of instruction personaly for peops to call him this and i believe him.

It was Liz Taylor who first gave him that moniker, the press took it from there and then the marketing dept. decided to capitalize on it. There's really nothing to agree or disagree on.
