? I don't like his music so ? But he seems kinda arrogent to me and tends to copy Prince in interviews (why the fuck as Prince is a boring shit usually)

Also he seems to think he's some kinda god and a genius. it's only rock lenny, u big haired retro dildo sponge. Stop copying others too.....

I think he is possibly overhyped, but not overrated.

Do you know what I mean?

Over hyped, but not overrated.....

MJ
Madonna
Usher
U2
Eminem
Prince
Bowie

Overhyped AND overrated.....

Christina Auguleria (however she spells it)
Whitney Houston
Justin Tiberlake
Nelly
Beyonce

Yes but he doesn't get much respect from critics or anyone that really knows anything about music so in my mind, he is sort of a caricature of himself. I mean...because I can't imagine he will ever make it to the Hall of Fame Awards or go down in history as a great guitar-player or singer-songwriter or anything. But he does make good music for Gap commericals. Now we are talking! Go Lenny!

shrug I don't think many people really consider Lenny Kravitz much of an artist, so in that regard he's not really overrated. In my opinion, he's more of a singles artist, and even then, many of his singles have been patchy.

Lenny is interesting. I used to love everything from the 2nd album on but he fell off w/ "Lenny" (unlistenable!) & "Baptism" was slightly better but not as good as past work. I still dig him overall though (he was great w/ Alicia & Stevie on that award show), I wish he'd get back on track. It's laughable when he's playing some simple guitar riff but his face & body language is as if he's playing his heart out lol Then again maybe I've been watching the effortless Princey too much innocent
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

I wouldn't call Prince and Bowie overhyped. Great musicians can't be overhyped in my opinion. Besides you don't see their names and images all over the place. As for the rest of your lists I'm fine with them. smile

I don't know, I never bothered to rate him in the first place. What a blah artist.

Overrated? Not sure, but I don't find much originality or substance in his music.

I think he's rated just about right: occasionaly-to-frequently entertaining as a rockstar/musician, but never inspiring, interesting, or original.

It's also laughable when, during his interviews,he tries to play the role of "misunderstood genuis" on the same level as Prince.

His first two albums were pretty good. Beyond that there's the occasional song I like. So... yeah.

Personally I find Lennky Kravitz' music pretty uninspiring as is the music Prince is making these days. With the exception of give or take 1 or 2 songs (I really like 'Heaven Help'), I find his music lacks conviction as being something close to his heart.

No, I don't think Lenny is overrated. His music is good, but not great. I do like Lenny very much, but he's not one of the greatest musicians IMHO.

what is this rating scale that people here are always holding artists up against? if it's not musicians, it's movies and I just don't get it.

overrated compared to what?

if it's what people think, who cares

compared to Prince? how is that a comparison?

confuse

When you say no one really respects Lenny, you mean no one on this site right? You can't possibly mean the general public or other artists. His records sell millions. His concerts sell out. Very famous and respected musicians have worked with him (Prince, Jay Z to name a couple). As Lenny once said, people don't know how to classify him or his music. He's not black enough for the black people (ie: he doesn't do rap or hip/hop or dress the part), but he is black and that may hurt his popularity among the white people. Lenny may not be the greatest musician out there today, but he's ok in my books. He beats the hell out of the most of the shit music that people are buying today.

You got that right. I think he enjoys being a rock star more than he does a musician. I don't dislike him, but I don't particularly care for his music.

nod I like some of his older material b/c it was original. However, his most recent material hasn't been too up to par which leads me to agree with your view of him enjoying rock star status more so than musician at times (especially that stupid ass Gap Commercial). Musically, he needs to do some soul searching.

I've never seen him in concert. Can he really "play"? Does he let loose on the guitar and improvise - everytime I've seen him perform, he plays everything note for note.

Also, does/can he dance?

From my observations, I have noticed that dude can play guitar. However, he doesn't have much going on in the dance department. Hell, I haven't seen any rockers that can beat P in the department of dance.

nod Agreed. His motivation is gone b/c he is become to jaded with the rewards of fame. For some strange reason, it seems like like when an artist is going through some major shit in their live, they make some good music(especially Prince).
