Today's industry and a 19yr Old Prince? Question for yall...
Think back...and ponder this... Do you think in today's music climate an 19yr Prince would have gotten a music deal? I hate to say it, but I think the so-call marketing geniuses in the business would have passed on him, because even to this day, they would be clueless how to present his music to the masses, no matter how talented the guy was/is.

Hell no-- not with the image and songs he came out with. Then again he helped create today's musical climate so who knows how things would be if he were time-warped to the present.
I do believe he'd find a way to get his music out though. He would likely have had to start as an independent and after creating a little buzz MAYBE he'd get a contract. Then again, who knows?

He'd get a contract, but he wouldn't have the creative control he had back then. A lot of his ideas would be considered too "weird" for the cookie cutter climate. Heck, they were considered "weird" back then - but he was allowed to flourish with those ideas. The industry now is completely different, and not in good ways when it comes to music. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Probably not, no. The only way I can think he might make it nowadays is, like whodknee said, if he started out as an independent. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I seriously doubt he'd make it as a mainstream artist. But if he were an indie artist, he'd probably be an underground legend. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.
