They had a signature sound for a lot of the SOS Band productions IMO. However, they did craft many songs specifically for particular artists. For example, "If it isn't love" by New Edition sounds nothing like "Fake" by Alex O'Neal.

Maybe I'm interpreting signature sound differently than you are. I don't mean all their songs sound the same, though some of them do; outside of the lyrics, there isn't much difference between The Time's Pandemonium and Janet's Escapade.

What I'm saying is their sound was very much different from what others were doing. There was something very distinct, particularly in the percussion tracks, in their production that didn't sound like others. You can hear it in Janet, Alexander O'Neal, Johnny Gill, The Time (well, Pandemonium, the album they produced), SOS Band, even in the NE album Heartbreak. I remember hearing a lot of these songs on the radio when I was a teenager thinking they sounded something like a Janet song.

I agree that pretty much everything Jam & Lewis produced in the mid-80s had their signature Flyte Tyme sound. New Edition's 'Heart Break' was the first project where they tried to sound a little different. It was a little more "street" according to them.

Wowzers! I had no idea that was Jam & Lewis. This is why I love The Org smile

I just heard a clip of it from yahoo shopping. Sounds nothing like them nod It sounds ok though

To me, it sounds like a cross between Jam & Lewis and Paul Hardcastle. I love it, it's a little more uptempo than their usual uptempo stuff. You'll love the full version.
