Many favorites have been mentioned. I'll add:
Daft Punk - Homework random edit: [Edited 12/19/04 6:20am] "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

Oh, and while violating both the rules of this thread and, considering their recent 'music', good taste, i'll co-nominate:
Metallica - Metallica (The Black Album) "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

How can that be when taste in music is completely subjective?

How can that be when taste in music is completely subjective? True, to a degree. But greatness is measured not only by the quality of the music but the degree to which it influenced and affected the music that comes afterwards, as well as the public's perception of it. The question wasn't asking for your favorite album of the 1990s. The question was asking for your nomination for the greatest album of the 90s. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Which is why I nominated Portishead Dummy, and Weezer (blue album).
