I just read what you posted on Christina and "Miss I". I'm implusive and love to post!

"I'm A Slave" is definately her "blackest song" and probably her best (there are others I like more, like "Overprotected" and "Breathe On Me"). I think it would have worked very well for Janet but I think it was a good thing that Britney did something with it. Too be honest, I can't imagine Janet doing it now. It's Britney's song.

Well, sure, we can say "it's Britney's song" now 'cause it's been encoded into our pop DNA for the past 3 years. When I listen to it, I bypass the fact that it's Britney and zoom straight to the Neptunes. But, almost any major female pop artist could've sang that and made it their own -- Janet included.

love Ooh, I love "Breathe On Me" and "Outrageous" jams, too, but I'll spare this from further transforming into a Britney discussion.

.

You're right. The reason "Slave 4 U" is a Britney song is yes, because she did it first.

Not into "Outrageous". I just don't get it. It's not the worst but "Breathe On Me" would have been a bigger hit.

Let's spare everyone though. wink

It's kinda funny cause i think Breathe On Me, which was written by Steve Anderson long time Kylie cohort, was written for Miss Minogue... so that would be three great songs that Kylie passed on if it's true

Three? "Breathe On Me" is great by Britney, but Kylie would have done it great as well. Then again, it's so atypical of Kylie's songs, why not give Britney a shot.

Thriller81

I guess Rod Temperton gave the song 'Mystery' to the Manhattan Transfer, and they recorded it in for their album "Bodies and Soul" in 1983 long before Anita Baker recorded it in '86. Baker's version was much better.

Madonna was originally supposed to sing "in the closet" with MJ.
But she wanted to change the lyrics and MJ though they were too sexy so Madonna told him to shove it razz

Madonna came up with a unique idea for the video...she would dress as the man,and he would dress as the woman (!).She wanted it to be provocative and controversial, but he refused,so the collaboration never happened.

But then she stole the whole soundtrack for Sparkle from the cast of the film, so it all worked out in the end! lol

True enough lol

Bruce Springsteen almost gave 'Cover Me' to Donna Summer, instead he released it himself and it was a huge hit.

Correct.Instead,he gave her a great song called "Protection",which appears on her 1982 self-titled album. This song was originally recorded as a duet, but it was decided that Donna's and Bruce's voices don't blend well together.

Philip Bailey said that if there was one song that he wished Earth Wind and Fire had done, It was the Skip Scarborough song, "Love Ballad"(Much More Than They Can See), but they (and many other artists) passed on the song, So Skip gave it to LTD and Jeffrey Osborne, and they made it a Classic ...

Yeah,I heard this story and I'm mad that EW&F didn't get "Love Ballad" first! Don't get me wrong,I love the LTD version, but could you imagine what EW&F could have done with this track? Man,it would have heavenly music

Great thread.

Nobody gonna mention how Kiss was meant for Mazerati and Prince snatched it back for himself, saying it was too good to give away? lol

this kinda stuff went on ALOT in the Prince camp lol

"The Glamorous Life" was intended for Apollonia 6,and the girls were pissed when Prince gave it to Sheila E. instead.

"Manic Monday" was also intended for Apollonia 6 (there's even a bootleg version featuring Apollonia's vocals),but he gave it to The Bangles and it became a huge smash.

"Partyman" was written in 1982 and was intended for Morris Day and The Time to record,I think.

Plus, wasn't it around the same time as that crazy backlash?

I think the backlash was deserved after saying AIDS was God's punishment for gays, when her biggest supporters were gay and still are. Glad we all could get past it though.

There's a huge controversy over this, and it's not known if Donna actually made those comments,or if she was just misunderstood.

Prince's "I Feel For You" was written for Patrice Rushen. She turned it down, Prince did it himself, and Chaka Khan later made it a hit.

Donna Summer's "Bad Girls" was originally intended for Cher.

Donna Summer said in her VH1 "Live and More" concert that her song "Dim All The Lights" was intended for Rod Stewart.

LOL,depending on which "myth" you choose to believe. The story has changed several times, but it's either ONE of these three songs that was intended for Cher...

"Hot Stuff"
"Bad Girls"
"My Baby Understands"

Supposedly,Donna played a demo of one of these songs to her record company president Neil Bogart. He liked the song, but felt that it would be better for Cher (whom he had just signed).Donna was pissed, insisting that SHE would record the song.

lol

When Chic was recording their second album, the first single was planned to be a catchy song called "He's The Greatest Dancer".They hadn't even come up with "Le Freak" yet.But finally, they wrote "Le Freak" and decided to place it on the album. The song "He's The Greatest Dancer" was removed and given to Sister Sledge.Chic "traded" them that song for "I Want Your Love",which was reclaimed and placed on Chic's album.

lol are you confused yet?

APPARENTLY...

The song Le Freak came about after Chic were denied entry into a club. Greatly annoyed (and a little stoned), they returned home and started on a song called Fuck Off which later became Le Freak. lol Aaaaaahhhhh Fuck Off!

"Love Shoulda Brought You Home" was written for Anita Baker, she turned it down (I believe due to a scheduling conflict)...Anita thought the woman who recorded the demo sounded great and wanted to know why LA and Face just did'nt have the then unknown artist record/release it. Toni Braxton was the unknown artist and the single went on to become her break thru hit which was released on the Boomerang soundtrack and her debut album.

Cher basically recorded her own version of Hot Stuff on the soundtrack for Foxes. It was a song called Bad Love, and was produced by Giorgio Moroder.
