it was like a bee gee's version of a great pink floyd song. how could anyone do that to "comfortably numb" and be rewarded for it?

I dug the first song they performed.

I get what people see in them (there's little to no good pop music out there anymore), but I'm not buying. Good luck to them, though.

yeah, i just can't get into them. which is strange, because they're a superqueer version of two of my favorites (Bowie & Elton) smooshed into each other. just doesn't click with me, though. "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

Well, you DO love U2 ... There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

About 4 or 5 years ago I wouldn't even have given that sort of music the time of day but now, I'll stick my neck out and say I think the Scissor Sisters are fairly cool I understand that sentimentalists may not have liked the Pink Floyd cover, but C'mon y'all..... that was a mad fresh electro-disco beat on that one I quite like these alternative (now) New Yorkers! "...Gonna take yo mama out all night, Yeah! we'll show her what it's all about..." "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."

I don't see the Bowie comparisons at all.

you know what, they weren't great on SNL last night, but they were the most competent act i've seen on there this season (with the exception of U2, which i didn't see, but i can assume they kicked requisite ass). the band seemed to be playing their instruments and they seemed to be enjoying the fact that they were performing...which is more than i can say for most of the hacks that have been playing on SNL this season. it made me wish i had tix to see them at the vic tonight here in chicago - my sweetie and i looked to see if there were tix left, but it was all sold out.

I dug it too. I like their sound. They kinda have this vintage, 70's, Elton sound to them. Great fashion sense too! But on SNL the lead singers pants and boots reminded me of P on Ab in 1980! Did you order a pizza ma'am? Prince- UTCM

you mean that is actually a band? I thought it was a cruel joke that they were playing on the world! WOW would off thunk it?

Ex-Moderator | I agree the SNL performance wasn't that great, the vocals were pretty muddled, etc. But I do enjoy them quite a bit. Pure fun. Saw them live a few months back, had a great time, and now that they're comin round this way again in January I may go down to see 'em again. |

Yeah dude's gear was tripping me out!! :goldpants: :cowboyboots: The guitar player kinda reminded me of Prince too, I think it had something to do with the pants he had on. I did give their album a listen once and it didn't really grab me, but after seeing them perform live, I'll have to give it another chance. [Edited 12/12/04 17:30pm]

I fucking love this cover. It's fun and inventive and I can't get enough of it.

Funny to see so many different opinions. I thought they were great, but that might be because the album is good too. The Floyd cover was odd at first but grew on me and it works. Not sure it came off live though. One wonders if this band will be around for long though. I hope they continue to put out cool stuff in the future. You wouldn't know that 4 of the 5 members were gay though, would you? Except the lead singer is sort of flaming.

Scissor Sisters rock! See them live before you judge them. Very talented bunch - and I'm a musician myself so I'm pretty judgemental.
I saw them at the Albert Hall in London and they pretty much blew me away.

Their SNL performance looked like something I should have liked
but I just kept thinking " This is Crap!"

Don't spend too much time bemoaning the butchering of that there sacred cow.
Apparently having an appreciation for tongue-in-cheek piss takes, poor old Pink Floyd not only officially approved the blasphemous Bee-Gee-ing of 'Numb,' they even requested autographed copies of the single.

What the fuck does Pink Floyd have to do with D&D?? Is this some sort of implication that only geeks like Floyd?? Somehow, I doubt that's the case, since they are widely repected by critics, musicologists and rock fans alike. Dark Side Of The Moon forever holds the record for being on the Billboard charts longer than any other album, so obviously, they appeal to more than just basement-dwelling gamers (and why, in particular, they would appeal to this group is still beyond me). Floyd is a band that PLENTY of Prince fans like. PF have created some of the best albums in the history of rock. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)
