CynicKill

I hate this board for being so successful, while my "inventive" Gilmore Girls" board met with little fanfare. Curse all you music haters!

I wouldn't say "KILLS" lol . It may very well be his best, but it certainly isn't my favourite.

I take it that you've never heard the "Billie Jean" demos? Quincy didn't really have that much to do with the sound of this song.

nod

Once Quincy wa outta the picture, MJ's music lost all its soul

listen to Who Is It (written/arranged/coproduced by MJ) and Stranger In Moscow (written/arranged/produced entirely by MJ), probably two of his most soulful songs.

Have listened to them. In fact I've probably heard everything he's done otherwise I wouldn't have made the comment. I've never been a big MJ fan but live the first two albums especially Off The Wall. I just don't think much of what he did after. Too calculated and he didn't seem to be expressing himself honestly or when he did he was whining. Mind you I don't think tales of pyjama parties at Neverland would have sold so well.

well, people who know him (ie, Quincy) said most of his songs are autobiographical

This is a very good question, I recently tired to ask this from myself as well. The truth is I cannot come up with an answer. They are simply just some of the best songs ever written. I mean if the question would have been "Billie Jean vs. Undisputed" or "Privacy vs. When Doves Cry" it wouldn't be hard to come up with some osrt of an answer but this is just impossible - it's like asking "what's the meaning of life?". I'm serious.

The songs are completely different, the artists are different, and both songs have been played to death. The Doves video is played and dated, just like some of P's early videos in which he used effects. Michael is the best video artist of all time and none of his videos look dated, not even "Don't Stop Till…" which utilizes effects. The only bad video he ever did was "Blood on The Dancefloor" which is piece of shit in both sight and sound. mad

Billie Jean is all Michael, lyrically it sounds like Heartbreak Hotel (This Place Hotel) which is off the Jackson’s Triumph album; an album not produced by Q but by Michael and his bros.

It is a tough choice, but one thing i have to admit: As much as i love BJ, i can't play it(or the Thriller album) anymore because it was played to death back in the day. I can still listen to WDC and the Purple Rain album though

He's just telling a story. The song's not actually about him; it's about his brothers and the girls that followed them on tour.

Odd. I heard that it was inspired by a woman who claimed that Michael was the father of one (yes, one) of her twins!!! She apparantly later ended up in a home for the mentally ill.

That's what we were told in in school. I still can't get over that fact that my high school actually offered a "History of Rock and Roll" class!

It's a draw. Billie Jean for it's bass, WDC for it's no-bass.
