Live Aid

A friend who works at a radio station gave me a copy of the DVD and I have been watching it recently.

First, talk about a nostalgia trip. I remember watching parts of this back in 1985. I specfically remember waiting to see The Who, Simple Minds, U2, and couldn't wait for the reunited Led Zeppelin (which I remember as a HUGE disappointemt...I am glad Jimmy Page wouldn't let the performance be on this DVD). I also thought it was cool that Phil Collins played in London and then hopped the concorde to play in Philly (hey it was the 80s and Phil was pretty big at the time).

Now watching this again...the show in London kicked the Philly show in the ASS. London: Queen, David Bowie, U2, The Who, Elton John w/ George Michael, Dire Straits, Sting...the list goes on. All their performances (esp Queen & The Who) were all top notch. US: All these b-list performers...Kenny Loggins, REO Speedwagon, Brian Adams, Thompson Twins. The only top acts I thought were good were Simple Minds, Pretenders, Tom Petty, and Run DMC (which wasn't broadcast on the original showing). All of the Stones were there but they didn't play together (except Mick and Tina Turner was cool). Bob Dylan was HORRIBLE! Where the hell was Prince? Springsteen? Michael Jackson? Prince could have made up for some of that bad press for skipping We Are The World if he played this and proved what a bad ass live performer he is. Didn't he have a video or something?...not enough (he's not mentioned on the DVD).

Overall though, a really nice set to have...I feel guilty not paying for it (especially after watching those gut-wrenching docs about the famine). But if anyone remembers this historic day with any fondness at all should check it out. A nice little trip to the past (plus, you can laugh your ass off at Bono's mullet).

Yep the 3 biggest perfromers at the time missed the show. Infact bruse, MJ and Prince r of the best perfromers ever proberly! Bruce was on tour but as for Prince and Jacko.....WHY?

Jacko coulda gone on with his brothers surely! Mind u, the jacksons/Jagger duet "state of shcok" (tina replaces the jacksons) was the highlight of the US show, so at least one jackso song got played!

I'm thinking of buying this as a Christmas gift for my younger sister. She loves the 80s.Can I get a few more reviews/thoughts/comments? Is this set really worth it?

It saves lives...of course it's worth it!

4 discs - 10 hours of footage, documentary, superior sound etc etc.

If u buy one gift this year, make it this one, and give something back in the process. Every single penny made (manufacturer have waived fees too) goes into the Live Aid Famine Relief fund.
thumbs up!
