Elvis is one of the most important artists of the 20th century and beyond....

Check out the albums This Year's Model, Armed Forces, Get Happy, Trust, Brutal Youth, Painted from Memory, and North for some of his best work....

He is married to Diana Krall, a very important artist in her own right.Oh, and don't forget he lost his mind on Saturday Night Live TV show one night. He used to be a lot more nuts than he seems to be today.

Thanks for the info. I am not a fan of Ms. Krall's at all, though I hear he penned a few tunes for her latest album. I really think I'd like Elvis, but aside from the songs Alison, Tear Off Your Own Head, and Veronica - I know nothing of his work.

What would be the best album with which to start my possible new-found joy?

You can't go wrong with Armed Forces Or This Years Model. Their both laden with great songs w/ great hooks. Pure Ear Candy...

He tried to release a cover of Prince's Pop Life, but Prince turned him down. So instead, he made a song called "The Bridge I Burned" which has some moments that are snide ripoffs of Pop Life, its kind of like an "FU" to Prince in a way.

Trust is New Wave Forever's favorite album.

Get Happy!!!!! is a must-have for any Costello fan.

Before playing music, Elvis was a computer operator.

Elvis was married to Cait O'Riordan of The Pogues.
NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

his album with Burt Bacharach, "Painted From Memory" is beautiful. one of my all-time favorites, and i wouldn't consider myself a fan of either one of them, really.

PS: Burt doesn't sing, so thumbs up!

He's an excellent songwriter, underrated singer, and great musician. I'd say check out The Very Best of Elvis Costello and the Attractions (which is out of print, but IMO the best representation of his earlier years; it shouldn't be that hard to find anyway) and then go from there. He has such a vast back catalog, with many different styles. The CD is a really good sampler of everything up until 1986.
