...it also comes from having a Much Too Large record collection...

Does anyone remember a song that goes...

"Let me entertain you, let me fix dinner for two"

If so, who sings it? Was it The Controllers?

The Controllers did have a 1979 album called "Next In Line" that had a song called "Let Me Entertain You" -- it was released as a single, but I never got to hear it(at least I dont Think I've heard it)...

what the fuck were they putting in the water in 79 ???

Whatever was in the water in 1979 had the opposite effect on the Banshees:

14 minutes of "The Lord's Prayer"--pure torture! One of the worst Siouxsie And The Banshees albums ever. sad

1979 is one of the greatest years for pop music....

Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls' album
Supertramp 'Breakfast In America' album
The Bee Gees 'Spirits Having Flown' album
Michael Jackson 'Off The Wall' album
Diana Ross' 'The Boss' album
Prince 'Prince' album
Sister Sledge 'We Are Family' album
Chic 'Risque' album

and there were so many wonderful hit singles...

"Goodnight Tonight" by Paul McCartney and Wings
"Found A Cure" by Ashford and Simpson
"Shine A Little Love" by ELO
"I Got My Mind Made Up" by Instant Funk
"Disco Nights (Rock Freak)" by GQ
"We Are Family" by Sister Sledge
"Good Times" by Chic
"Driver's Seat" by Sniff N' The Tears
"Do You Love What You Feel" by Rufus and Chaka Khan
"I Want You To Want Me (Live)" by Cheap Trick
"Lead Me On" by Maxine Nightingale
"I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince
"I Call Your Name" by Switch
"My Sharona" by The Knack
"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor
"Lotta Love" by Nicolette Larson
"Mama Can't Buy You Love" by Elton John
"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart
"Makin' It" by David Naughton

music

FLASHBACK!! My god, the emergence of some of these songs is etched crystal clear in my brain. I was sure taking it in at 12 years old! Especially

"We Are Family" by Sister Sledge
"I Want You To Want Me (Live)" by Cheap Trick
"My Sharona" by The Knack
"I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor
"Do Ya Think I'm Sexy" by Rod Stewart

It's such a different thing when you experience pop-culture as it happens rather than catching up on bits of it after the fact, eh?
And these five albums heavily informed my pre-teen existence:
Donna Summer's 'Bad Girls' album
Supertramp 'Breakfast In America' album
Michael Jackson 'Off The Wall' album
Sister Sledge 'We Are Family' album
Chic 'Risque' album

Me and my girlfriends were making up disco routines in my living room.

As for "Let Me Entertain You" by The Controllers, Thanks paligap and The Audience. They used to play that song a lot down here. There was a local promoter named Lee King that had a television dance show called "Black Gold", that was our local answer to "Soul Train". Mr. King played some of the hardest funk before the radio even dreamed of playing it. I thought The Controllers sang the song but I was beginning to wonder if I was right because I have never been able to find it. Even when I got the internet, I saw no info on it.

Another rare one, I have absolutely no idea who sings is called "Funktionary" which came out in either 1979 or 1980.

I remember hearing The Controllers or maybe even seeing them once when I lived in Florida.

Btw, www.allmusic.com talks about a group called Freedom that had a cut call "The Functionary".

Might that be it?

That might be it. Freedom was one of our local groups so that would explain why it got so much airplay then but is so hard to find now. The Audience, you are amazing. biggrin
