Not to say that 1979 wasn't a great year, I agree that it was, but I honestly think that every year there is great music made and 1979 was no better or worse than any other year. Sometimes it takes years to discover some of that great music, but I think it's there every year.

I always consider 1979 as one of the greatest years in music. This was the year that I first started buying records, the first year I started going skating, and also the first year I discovered Prince.

The first album my grandmother bought me was "Grease" (a 1978 release). The next was Donna Summer's "Bad Girls" album. I remember my grandmother exchanging it three times because it skipped every time. We didn't know that the needle was worn out and could be replaced on my "Snoopy" record player. I had a penny attached to it with a rubber band to apply pressure to stop it from skipping. This, of course, was grinding into the record. Hell, you live and learn. lol

Anyway, 1979 was a hell of a year musically. I was very heavy into disco back then. This was the year that disco reached it's peak. I hated to see it die so the next year, in 1980, I started searching the radio and discovered black R&B stations. Funk, at that time, was very similar to disco and funk is where I stayed ever since.

1979 was the perfect year to end the decade of the 1970s.

To be completely pedantic, 'Parallel Lines' was released in '78. I think 'Eat to the Beat' was 1979.
