I can't pick a favorite O'Jays album!

Earlier this year,I went out and bought all of the O'Jays albums from the 70s.Most of them are on CD (except for 1977's 'Travelin' At The Speed Of Thought'),and several have been remastered in recent years.By now,I thought I would be able to pick a favorite, but it's nearly impossible! ALL of these albums (from 1972's 'Backstabbers' to 1978's 'So Full Of Love') are superb....some of the best soul music of all-time,and arguably the most inspired music that Gamble and Huff ever produced.

So,what's your favorite O'Jays album? I'm so close to choosing 'Family Reunion' (1975),but lately I've been going crazy over 'Ship Ahoy'(1973) and 'Message In The Music (1976),which is probably their most underrated album.

'Family Reunion' is a masterpiece! Side Two (for those of you Old Schoolers who had it on vinyl, lol) features three of their best songs ever...

"Livin For The Weekend"
"Stairway To Heaven"
"I Love Music"

It doesn't get much better than that. But I've never heard the 'Travelin At The Speed Of Thought' album and it's out of print. Is it really good?

1975's 'Survival' is probably the weakest of these albums, but even this album is still great!

What's your opinion of the 1976 album 'Message In The Music'? That one is so underrated. The third track "Paradise" is the highlight imo.

Gotta go with...

...Ship Ahoy

Put Your Hands Together
Ship Ahoy
This Air I Breathe
You Got Your Hooks In Me
For The Love Of Money
Now That We Found Love
Don't Call Me Brother
People Keep Tellin' Me

Absolutely, positively NO FILLER!

What a choice to have though. nod
You can't go wrong with either of those 3 quality albums.

'Backstabbers' is their first masterpiece.I think five singles came from that album (which was unusual for an R&B album back in 1972),including the title track and "Love Train".

'Ship Ahoy' is classic! One of the best R&B albums of the 70s.
