But the Jets are not a funk group, Freddie Jackson is not funk, Janet Jackson is not funk, Jackson 5 is not funk, and so on. I'm not talking about artist influences, I'm, talking about actual musicial output. Most of the groups I re-posted about were R&B or Pop groups. If you want to base this discussion solely on artist influences than you may as well say Michael Bolton is a funk artist becuase he was influenced by The Isley Bros. ... I was only responding specifically to what you said about Sly's roots(not the other stuff about Janet and the other Pop/r&B groups)...
Earlier, you said that you agreed P-funk was one of the top Funk Groups, but that you would put Sly Stone in a more Pop/Rock bag. My point was just that you could say similar things about about P-funk, but there's no denying their place in the Funk pyramid. so Sly Stone is definitely one of the cornerstones of Funk as we know it. James lit the fire, Sly took it to another level, George Clinton took it from there... Sly made Miles Davis , Hendrix , Herbie Hancock AND George Clinton all delve more seriously into The Funk...They all wanted to Funk like Sly... ...
