Favorite WAR Albums

Here's some of my favorites:

1. Why Can't We Be Friends? from 1975, IMHO, the greatest WAR album of all-time. A masterpiece

2. The World Is A Ghetto from 1972, I can't really compare if this is their masterpiece as the Why Can't We Be Friends LP, because they are both good. But this is my 2nd favorite.

3. All Day Music from 1971, another rare funk gem and it's a good one too.

4. Anthology from 1994, People say Very Best Of is a more concise compilation than this, but I consider this as a comprehensive box set and first-time listeners should pick this as their first stop WAR CD. I will admit, this was my first WAR album.

And does anyone actually like their 1979 double album, THE MUSIC BAND...?

The World Is A Ghetto (1972)
Why Can't We Be Friends (1975)
Outlaw (1982)

Their most recent album 'Peace Sign' (1994) isn't half-bad.A very consistent set that would have been a huge success if released in an earlier era.

I don't have any War albums from back in the day, I only have two 45s..."You Got The Power" and "Outlaw".

In the the 1990s, I bought a 2 CD greatest hits album called "Grooves & Messages: The Greatest Hits Of War". The first CD contains all the great hits from the 1970s and the two 45s I have from the 1980s. The second CD contains house remixes of some of the 1970s hits.

I also bought their "Peace Sign" album in 1994. I thought it was a great attempt for War at the time and wish it had gotten more airplay.

Does that CD contain the album versions of those two songs,or the single versions (same as the 45s you have)?

I've never heard that album, but I recall that it wasn't well-received by fans or critics. They actually recorded a follow-up titled 'Music Band II' and it bombed as well. Some people say War's music went downhill after 1976,but I'm not sure if I totally agree.I like their 1977 album 'Galaxy'.

Agreed. The 2-CD Anthology is the best War compilation. It's not missing anything, and it comes with insightful, detailed liner notes.

The song "Galaxy" is my favorite War song. The house version on the 2 CD set I have is great too.

In a perfect world, the 'Peace Sign' CD would have gotten the attention and success it deserved. It's a solid album, one of their most consistent albums.I'm addicted to the song "U.B.O.K",which stays in your head all day long.

The main ones I listen to are "Peace Sign", "Let Me Tell You", and "What If". I also have the maxi single of "Peace Sign" which is a nice house version.

"Let Me Tell You" is single-worthy.There's also a wonderful ballad called "I'm The One Who Understands".I haven't listened to this CD in awhile, but I'm gonna have to pull it out.
