1) Delgados - Universal Audio
2) Magnetic Fields - i
3) Icarus Line - Penance Soiree
4) A.C. Newman - Slow Wonder
5) Drive-By Truckers - Dirty South

I haven't heard the Arcade Fire record that everybody's raving about yet, and I just bought the Modest Mouse album last week and haven't really digested it in full...so this is probably a work in process.

i was really, really impressed with the magnetic fields CD...i'm usually pretty lukewarm on their stuff, but this one blew me away for some reason. nod

It's funny. I'm usually crazy about his CDs, but I was kind of lukewarm on this one. Some great songs, without a doubt, but as a whole, a little too sleepy or something. And not enough vocals from Claudia, who I have a big, stupid gay-boy crush on.

But yay for the Truckers! That album rules. Here's my list:
1. Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous (this CD just grows on me every day. stinking love, love, love it)

2. De La Soul - The Grind Date (same with this one...it's bangin' and kinda sad at the same time)

3. Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose (she's drinking pitchers of sloe gin fizz, what more do you need to know?)

4. Drive By Truckers - Dirty South (Their best batch of songs yet)

5. Musicology - (It really has held up to sustained listening)

Almost made it: Gwen (which is not holding up as well), Kanye (same thing), Jill Scott (altho, it's the best sex album of the year), Modest Mouse (LOVED it for a short while, but haven't had the urge to hear it since)

That goes without saying. She's above and beyond 'Best Of' lists. Untouchable.

So did you get that Siouxsie box? Is it out here yet?

I broke down and ordered the import this week. People on the Siouxsie email list kept going on about how amazing it was that I couldn't wait any longer. It should arrive sometime next week. Who knows when a domestic version will be released. The demand just isn't there like it was for The Cure. Maybe the band should publicize more that Robert Smith was their guitarist for two years.

Yeah, all of a sudden it's very in vogue to namedrop and like the Cure. It'd probably work for them too.

I looked on AMG and they have the release date listed as 12-14. hmmm

That's for the import copy as I haven't seen it in any U.S. stores yet. I ordered it from CDWOW overseas for £18.00. Amazon.com has it listed at over $80! eek

The rumor was way back when that the reason why the video for "Swimming Horses" was left off the 'Twice Upon A Time' VHS was that Smith was way too prominent in it. The Banshees needed to make more videos like that one. biggrin

The official websites say there are plans for a U.S. release, but no real date is mentioned. I'm not holding my breath.

See, I'm not even much of a Siouxsie fan. I dig their kind of music. And I don't know much. And I'm not crazy about her as a person based on what I've read. I've been so spoiled with delux editions and box sets lately, that this has me majorly intrigued.

Well, I don't really know how much of a Smith fanatic you are, but the live album and video he recorded with them ('Nocturne') is amazing. Just watching him play guitar on the track "Pull To Bits" on the VHS is spectacular.

They've been my favorite band since I was 11.

But I've never seen this. Sounds like I need to.

I've had both the CD and VHS for forever so I don't really know if it's still in print. Used copies should be pretty easy to come by though.

Then there is the studio album Smith recorded with the Banshees, 'Hyaena', which is really good, but I don't think he has that much of a presence on it. It's not like you can listen to it and immediately recognize that it's him playing guitar or anything.

Hyaena is a really good album... i love Swimming Horses. I went through a phase once where I played that song over and over. And Bring Me the Head of the Preacher Man is another great one.

But yeah... there's nothing on the album that really screams out "Robert Smith is here!"
