The only way I would compare STP and Pearl Jam is that they have released some excellent music that will never get played on the radio. Pearl Jam releasing more and in my opinion, an amazing band. I think Velvet Revolver would be fun to see live though. It is not a bad album. I like the first 6 or 7 songs but none of them compare to any song on Appetite for Destruction.

hey, don't get me wrong: I am NOT an Eddy Vedder-fan!

All I'm saying is that if Izzy is really that great, why doesn't he have a career? I was a big GnR-fan, thought they were great, until Axl lost it. Slash is a good guitarist, but his style is outdated. Scott weiland is too much a junkie-freak, he never impressed me. The PJ - STP comparison is very clear & obvious on STP's 'Core', don't deny.

Like I said, VR are not worthless shit, there is too much talent for that in the group. They are just not using it to create something new!

1. Izzy has a solo career. Just because you don't know it does not mean he does not have. And he got some pretty good albums.

2. Slash: In a sense, his style was always outdated, he always played blusier with his les paul than the likes of the bands of his time, but is that a bad thing? What guitar style is not outdated nowadays? THe guitar style of the musicans of Korn and LInking Park? gimme a fucki_ng break.

3. Apart some songs from the first album (vocal wise). STP has absolutely NOTHING to do with pearl jam. STP has got some flair, some dissonant chords, some great progressions. Very led zeppelin influenced in some senses. STP is very melodic.

I agree STP seemed somewhat Zep influenced to me.

And if Fall To Pieces does sound like Sweet Child (not to my ears, but hey) is that really a good thing? Surely a great record is one that sounds like nothing that's gone before it?

Exactly, and that sums up the whole discussion! nod

Boy you guys just fucking run with it, I SAID "REMINDS ME" I did not it was Sweet Child OF Mine and I was reffering to slash's melodic guitar stylings.

I haven't heard his solo stuff, but Izzy has nothing but respect from me. I wouldn't mind him joining VR, though I doubt it would happen.

Oh so true!! Really, there's nothing wrong with having a "dated" style. (I would call it a "classic" style. To me, that adds something to a modern sound when there is a hint of classic style.

TOTALLY agree. Other than a COUPLE of vocals on Core, STP and Pearl Jam sound nothing alike. Sure, Weiland sounds similar on "Plush" (and being an early single, folks latched onto that), but the vast majority of the album he doesn't sound like Vedder at all. Musically, they really have completely different sounds. The Zepplin influence is very present, as is The Doors in many places.

PJ -STP comparison is weak, location wise PJ came from Seatle, STP came up out of San Diego and migrated to LA, Scott's vocal was exploratory on Core, but by time they did Vatican Gift Shop he had his own style light years beyond Veddar with better range.

Musician wise the Deleo brothers can run circles around PJ's drudgey and dull meanderings.

Yeah, there it is. wink
I love the way STP stretched on Vatican Gift Shop. Pearl Jam wishes they could write songs like that.
